Yeah, I didn't quote the corporate jargon Ubisoft regeritates to put you at ease, to lead you into the idea that they give a damn about how they treat you.  If you honestly thing these folks feel that way solely about the time saver packs, you're naive.

It's when you use words like "whatever" to describe the CONSUMER'S feelings that I quote you.

its always bad when you omit information just because you feel its corporate jargon.  Basically what you are doing is trying to paint your argument in the best light to justify your opinion.

@Bolded:  Actually they probably do feel that way because its not good business.  The developer definitely do not want the consumer to feel like they have to purchase stuff like this in order to play the game or successfully complete it.   As to the word whatever, I believe you are making a jump to conclusions as to its meaning and context and not neccessarily how its presented from the developer.

Did you ever hear of "cheat codes" ? Those things used to be free.

Now we should be thankful to beeing able to skip parts of a terribly designed game (parts that require un-fun grinding are bad game design)

Grinding can be fun too. But if something is so bad that people would rather pay money to skip it, you fucked up.

Actually cheat codes were not free.  People had to buy a mag to get those free cheat codes.  Of course with the net, once one person purchase the cheat code from the mag, it was up on every BBS (yes I went that far back in time).

Gamers have to take some blame too. A lot of us don't bother raising our voices when companies continue to release shitty DLC. Hell, a lot, if not most of us buy said DLC, encouraging companies like Ubisoft that they have the correct marketing strategy.

Isn't that how it starts, trivial?  It's how it becomes acceptable to the point when its NOT trivial and you have DLC for huge chunks of games, even bigger than what they already cut out and make you pay for twice.

It's this kind of attitude that allows things to fester and become worse and worse.  When your favorite IP starts charging you for the next level or the energy refils or multiplayer, maybe you'll sing a different tune.

Nope that isn't how anything starts. People buying them is all they care about. If enough people pay for them they keep doing it no one buys they stop doing it. The developer is free to experiment with any revenue making model they wish. You and I are free to spend on their offerings or not. Don't like the boosters etc. Don't pay for em.

Also, just because they offer these types of DLC why does knowing itis there diminish your enjoyment of the game(s)? The fervor with which people react to this stuff is just so comical. It's your money don't spend it if the content doesn't appeal to you.

As if these corperations don't attempt to push and force their way into consumers pockets.  It has nothing to do with diminishing my enjoyment and everything to do with pushing what they can get away with.  Like all "trivial" problems, the problem will evolve and grow until it becomes accepted.

Partly because of ignorance, partly because when a group is vocal, another group attempts to silence them(take a gander at this thread).  For the sake of these companies no less.

Props to ubisoft for being honest. If you don't like then don't buy it. Why cry about it?

But wait! What if you like the DLC, and wish that it was included in the main game like a lot of the DLC these days should, but at te same time don't want to spend $80-100 on one single game overall?

This is like a phone manufacturer taking out the mobile internet antennas in their phone and making you buy them seperately. Does your phone work just fine without it? The basic functions, sure. But it should be included as part of the whole package.
