Forums - Sony - Sony is in danger of becoming arrogant? Gamezone explains...

There's a difference between arrogant and confident really.

On the early PS3 days, they thought they had no competition at all. Today, they acknowledge that the competition is there and it will take that precious market share if you fuck up too much.

I doubt Sony is aware of this.

PS4 has the weakest game library of the gen and there no signs of changes,at least, for 2014.

Given that they downgraded my portable to a PS4 peripheral and tell me to buy a PS4 to play new games I thought they have been arrogant for some time.

Well the signs are allready emerging. They are still taking PR shots at MS in 2014 where as Xbox reps are largely praising Sony/Nintendo. You have the $60 cash grab LOU remastered compared to the value-rich Master Chief Collection. PS4 PS+ games are nowhere as numerous or good (lack of AAA) as PS3 PS+ games. PS Now rental prices = WTF.

I dunno, seems Sony is starting to take advanatge of winning and price gouging where they can in subtle ways.  They are lucky their fans are doing most of the heavy lifting to preserve the notion that Sony loves them unconditionally.

This is very predictable bost for a huge MS fan to make.

This dig is especially cheap:

"You have the $60 cash grab TLOU remastered compared to the value-rich Master Chief Collection."

More value rich!? I challenge that!! How much does TLOU retail for? How much does all the DLC cost? So Halo 1,2,3,4. The last two won'tbe touched up and the 1st will be the equivalent of a 360 game. So only 2 is getting the full treatment.

Still, everyone and their grandma knows that TLOU on PS4 will look much better than Halo 2 on X1.

One could argue that Halo 1,2 and 3 are showing their age so much that they will compare unfavourably with modern fps titles. Halo 4's multiplayer was widely criticized (by fans especially).

Most importantly, TLOU is one of the most acclaimed games of all time and it's just 1 year old. Hence the game (with regards to design, gameplay and principles) isn't archaic (as Halo 1, 2 and possibly 3 is).

How about we compare sales and see which game is appreciated more?

You can get Halo Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 + all maps and DLC for $55, as I type this post out. TLOU is still $40 ($30 in some places). Left Behind is $15 and the 2 map packs are $10 a pop. So for $50, you're getting $65 in value at the least, $75 at the most. The MCC, $60 gets you....whatever you'd value a Halo 2 remaster to be, since all the other content is available right now, as it will appear in the collection, for $55. I won't put a dollar amount on Halo 2 , certainly higher than $5 remaining between what you can get right now and how much the collection will retail for, but at the end of the day, it's still just a remake of a 10 year old game.

But how dare someone say the value in TLOU is comparable. Getting $75 in content for $50 is laughable when you can get $55 dollars in content plus a ten year old game for $60. And the Halo collection is 4 games! And 4 > 1. That means the God of War Saga or MGS Legacy Collection must be god's gift to earth since you can get even more old games with HD remasters for $50! Even though if you just buy the games separately, you'd spend less money! Because that's how "value" works

If you only count retail games then yeah. But if you count retail+Indie+f2p then no they have a very robust library to be so early in the life cycle. They have the fewest exclusive retail games  but other than that they are good. And were smart to save so many games for 2015 IMO.

A problem with a post like this is that not everyone lives around a CD Warehouse, or whatever regional game store it is you're quoting as you did in the other thread where you tried to beat this point home.

The other problem is when you go into it with your mind made up already regarding value, you tend to forget things included in one, or inflate the pricing of another. For example you price out the LoU DLC individually at $35, when you can buy the season pass for $20. At the same time, you're pricing the Halo DLC altogether in GOTY packs or season passes, which are less value. You also forget things with Halo. For example Halo Anniversary might exist on 360, but it's not the original Halo MP. This will be the first time you can play the original Halo CE MP online on consoles. Also, Halo 2 MP is no longer playable online. And it's being completely remade. So yeah, there is added value there. Lastly, you forget the Halo series included, which will cost $15 separately, and the Halo 5 beta access which again, both add value. At the same time TLoU is remastered in 1080p60 supposedly, so there will be some added value there too.

The moral of the story is value is completely subjective but please do not bother trying to price things out unless you plan to do so honestly and entirely.

The article's title is totally back-to-front - Sony have been arrogant since barging their way into this market.

Only through a combination of shocking occurrences and the shuffling of high-ranking staff, have they become more pragmatic. I've always considered Shuhei Yoshida to be a nice chap (despite being a shameless moneyhatter in '93) who loved what he was doing, and he quite often had good things to say about the competition. He's a good leader for a division that provides entertainment. Even Kaz has mellowed. However, it's too late to neutralise a history of arsehole PR.

Thanks for the memories though. Jack, Phil, you were just a Law Degree away from a career in politics.

This is what is wrong with the gaming community. There are no good guys in business, they only want your money. MSFT, Sony, and Ninetendo all make products they want you to buy.

Superficially, yes, but there's actually more to it than that. The crux of this topic is PR, and how it influences consumers in more ways that simply being satisified with their purchase. Shit, just look at console wars. LOOK AT THEM. Free marketing, right there.

BULLSHIT.

There are people at each of those companies that take pride in their products and want the customers to be satisfied.

I really hope you aren't true_fan from N4G, because we don't have a bubble system here and then everyone will be forced to see your posts.

I don't know what this "bubble thing" is because I've been warned not to go to N4G, but I assume you want something to ignore users?

I'll eat that I screwed up the DLC pricing, but that's only because I didn't know TLOU had a season pass. You look up "TLOU DLC" and it tells you about Left Behind and the 2 map packs. Look up "Halo 4 DLC" and it'll show you the War Games pass. But other than that, I believe my assessment was fair, since I did all the pricing based on secondhand markets. And eBay is not only regional to me and only I can get those prices. And I'm sure there are mom and pop used games stores all over the world, not just the one I shop at. For example, this random game store in Texas has Halo 3 and Fable 2 for $20, effectively making Halo 3 $10 (Halo 3 didn't pop up alone for this one). Or you can get it for $6, right this moment on eBay. Anyway, it's not like I just have it lucky with a store with low prices.
That's why I said it depends on how much value you place in Halo 2, because I wasn't going to put a dollar amount on it and at the same time, it's not available to play, right now. As far as Halo 1, if you're really gonna split hairs about the maps since they aren't identical but instead "re-imaginings" of the old maps, I'll give you that. But I know I wouldn't get up in arms (or use it as a talking point) to say "these maps are similar, but they just aren't the same". Beta access, sure, that's fine...but betas are free anyway?? So that just leaves the Halo series. Some people will care about that, but, and this is just me, I wouldn't say or be getting hyped because "this is the best offering this winter because it has access to a TV show"

No weaker than the Xbox One's library, honestly. The Wii U is better, but  it has been on the market for over a year now.

2014 is a pretty weak year overall, not just for the PS4. And Sony has a history of taking some time to actually "begin" the generation, so... I'm not worried about lack of games.

IMO it is because you could also just act like a grown up instead of a little kid.

Just show your stuff and stop bashing others. "look at me I am better" is pretty arrogant.
