In the RPG category you could easily include TES. Skyrim did over 20 million, thats more then a single Pokemon did last gen.

I agree that The Elder Scrolls should be included, but Pokemon is more impressive. Skrim's across three different platforms. Diamond and Pearl nearly sold 20 million on a single platform. Pokemon also consistently sells well with yearly releases (Since '08 a main series game has droped every year). I doubt The Elder Scrolls series could stay relevant.

Actually the TES series is growing, while Pokemon is declining. Daggerfall was well known, Morrowind was big, Oblivion made it a huge and Skyrim was a phenomenon. If anything TES shows more signs of relevancy and growth then Pokemon.

Nothing will dethrone Mario 3D games. Nobody except Nintendo are really making games like that anymore.

Thats obvious. Nintendo owns the IP. Did you mean 3D platformers? Then the answer is not yet, but in the 6th gen Sony prooved with the Ratchet and Jak series that they can be at least on-par

Pokemon isnt declining. Pokemon XY has sold over 12mil on a 43mil userbase compared to the last games that had a 150mil userbase. Overall its very stable now. Pokemon BW2 (2012 release) has outsold all the third installments in the past aside from Yellow (thats gen 2+3+4).

Exactly... Insomniac managed to produce 4 platformers in the genre during one generation, on par with only one released by Nintendo. Things can change fast.

Yeah, but do they have the staying power of Mario? Only time will tell I guess...

I think that we can agree that installbase doesnt matter in this equation. Pokemon, MGS, Resident Evil, GTA all prooved that the fanbase remains even if the installbase shrinks. On the other hand we can all agree that Pokemon will probably shrink this gen, compared with last, while TES will do massive numbers. SKyrim became a sensation, even mainstream outlets knew about it. If the devs can deliver, we can easily see the next entry do 25 million+

No, they already vanished. But thats not the point. The point is that the market is volatile and there are plenty of quality devs to be able to take away any crown in any genre. Not just 3D platformers. Dont get me wrong, I still believe that SMG is one of the finest 3D platformers (or platformers in general) ever crafted by human hands

Installbase does matter, and pokemon isnt at a decline. If 3DS had even an 80mil installbase that would easily made XY have over 18mil lifetime.

Also Pokemon XY will sell over 14mil lifetime... How is that a decline? We still need to see What Pokemon X2Y2 or Z (watever its called) performance. Pokemon BW2 >>>Pokemon Emerald/Pokemon Crstal and it'll surpass Pokemon Platinum this year!

Not denying TES increase.
