Forums - Gaming - Will Any Genre King From Last Gen be Dethroned This Gen? Aka... COD/Mario/Super Smash/etc!

Halo will outsell either individual COD SKU, but COD will stay ahead. Sales will still fall below last gen numbers. Assasin's Creed will fall off quite a bit. Batman could take its place. I would be shocked to see SSB lose its place, but Mario Kart could possibly be taken over by Gran Turismo if the install base stays the way it is. Everything else is pretty safe.

Just cuz of user base SSB can lose if its combined sales to another huge fighter, but i think SSB for WiiU will do over 5mil. 3DS should do extremely well imo. Watch it break expectations

One thing is certain, Mario and Pokémon for sure will take home this generation too.

Even if MS/Rare released an awesome sequel to Banjo it would not sell as much as any of the "main" Mario platformers, even if it was better. So Mario will take that genre, again and again. And all the platformers from Sony, Sly, Ratchet, Crash etc. won't either, no matter how good or bad they might be.

For adventure sequels to Zelda and Uncharted will absolutely be on the top. If something else will pop up I am not sure, but those games will absolutely hold the top place.

For racing we will see GT and Mario Kart again. Forza I am not sure how much it sells, but it's also on the top. Those three games this generation again is my bet.

For the other genres I don't really know. Shooters like COD and BF will continue to sell a whole lot, but we might see some other big names come too. Destiny maybe. Halo also sells a whole lot. But my bet is that COD will "win". And fighters I know almost nothing about, but I suppose SSB.

... what other huge fighter would that be?  Mortal Kombat sold a little bit over 4 million with SKUs combined.  Street Fighter was about 6.5 million or so if you include Super/Arcade.  I don't think any fighter this gen broke 3 million with one SKU.  So, even if SSBU falls to Melee levels it would outsell any other fighting franchise.  With the 3DS version, it's basically impossible.

It would be cool if a company made an amazing fighting game that blew up and sold 10 million plus copies, but that's pretty unrealistic.  Beyond that miracle, I can't see SSB losing to another franchise.
