Forums - Sales Discussion - Why Nintendo shouldn't suck up to third parties

Metacritic sucks and even then the highest rated game there is a Nintendo game so yeah, Nintendo makes the best games. But it's not like third party games are bad or "broken", it's just that Nintendo games are better, plain and simple.

Dont be an idiot. Youre just throwing fuel on the fire with these kind of stupid comments.

Report my comment if you feel it's wrong, but don't go around calling me and idiot.

2010. Mario Galaxy 2 (9.7) runner up Mass Effect 2/World of Goo(9.6). Wow, 0.1 difference. http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/all?year_selected=2010

2007. Super Mario Galaxy (9.7) runner up Bioshock (9.6). 0.1 difference to a new IP, Nintendo is god.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/all?year_selected=2009

2006. Twilight Princess (9.5). Runner up Gears of War(9.5). 0.1 difference to a new IP.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/year/all?year_selected=2006

Even when Nintendo has the highest rated game for a particular year its no higher then a .1 difference with a solid 3rd party effort. To most people these games are practically equal in quality. Nintendo does not have the highest rated title for 2013, 2012, 2011, 2009, 2008 and 2005 (most of last gen) so unless you are stuck in the past there are plenty of alternatives, plenty of good games on other platforms. Pretending that Nintendo's games are in a league of their own is totally silly, its a myth propagated by die hard loyalists. They are one of the best not the best and as sales of the WiiU show loads of people can get along just fine without their games.

However Nintendo got the game of the year in 2006, 2007 and 2010. This makes 3 years of the last generation. No other publisher has 3 years. Point proven.

Well if we go by the VGAs, Nintendo has never won. Its all relative...

Yes, that's the reason, why I dislike to measure quality with reviews. I could prove that nintendo is the best by pointing on the sales of their games. But then I would only get comments like sales <> quality.

1# - Third parties are not biased against nintendo. They just know what everybody already knows.Nintendo consoles sells nintendo games(or at least nintendo-like games).Games like rayman and skylanders sell great because they are colorful/cartoonish platformers like some of nintendo softwares.

Yes, and this is why Call of Duty 3 sold better on Wii than on PS3, right? Because clearly Nintendo consoles can't sell third party titles.

Third party games sell poorly on Nintendo consoles because third parties treat the Nintendo console versions as lesser to begin with. They put less money into the Nintendo system development, they put less money into advertising if it's an exclusive or don't bother to even list the Nintendo system in the ad if it's multiplatform. Case-in-point, pretty much every single Call of Duty since World at War, where most of them weren't even confirmed for release on the Wii (or Wii U) until days before release, at which point it was just a "Oh, and it's also releasing on Wii", no video, no quality screenshots, etc.

In the rare cases where third parties put some effort into selling games on Nintendo consoles, the games do exceptionally well. Resident Evil 4 for Wii sold over 2 million copies. Shaun White Snowboarding sold far better on Wii than on other systems. Red Steel, despite the glitchiness and overall weakness, still easily sold over 1 million copies. Monster Hunter did very well on Wii. No More Heroes was Suda 51's best-selling game of all time, enough to justify making a sequel (another first for him).

Meanwhile, pretty much all of the big-selling "mature" titles from Gen 7 weren't even released on Wii to begin with, with many of the remainder being late, inferior ports and/or completely ignored in terms of advertising/marketing.

But please, keep telling us that only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo hardware. Because we just love how the same old, tired, disproven talking points get used over and over again to attack Nintendo fans. Just like the whole "Wii was for teh cazualz", "Gamecube was for kidz", etc crap that went round over and over again with NO justification and lots of FUD.

WOW! FOUR WHOLE EXAMPLES! Well I'm convinced. Clearly 3rd party games find strong succes on Nintendo platforms, it's not like there are hundreds of games that have completely flopped on their consoles. Nope. You found four games that found slight success. Well done.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

To the consumer who doesn't own shares in Nintendo or doesn't rely on ONE publisher for games throughout the year that doesn't mean jack. And again in 2006, 2007 and 2010 Nintendo's games were only 0.01 better than the nearest third party so unless 0.01 just became a really big number as opposed to something NEGLIGIBLE gamers on other platforms have nothing to cry over and no reason worship Nintendo.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

True. Its a good thing Sony and MS exists, since a third party game has never flopped on their consoles...
