Sakaguchi. Gaming was kind of a mindless way to pass time until I played Final Fantasy, and then later Final Fantasy VI. Those games changed everything for me. Square was unquestionably my favorite company for a very long time, with games like FFT and Bushido Blade in addition to their traditional RPGs.
Clearly Miyamoto
Game: Ocarina of Time
I guess you could've put Yu Suzuki in there. Even though his games didn't have that much of an impact, Virtua fighter and Shenmue are still revolutionizing titles.

Miyamoto had the biggest influence if we talk about it on an objective scale.
As for myself as a gamer, it's actually Sakaguchi
For point #2, I would say Chrono Trigger. Though it seems like Sakaguchi was a designer + supervisor for the game rather than the director.
Miyamoto for sure as the biggest influence. Mario set the standard for platformers and re-invigorated gaming in general. Super Mario 64 again set the standard for a game with a 3D environment.
But Sakaguchi as I absolutely love his RPGs including Chrono Trigger, FFIV, VI, VIII, XI, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, The Last Story... I mean come on! But this was all when Square actually was good.
Hideo's half-baked milking of Metal Gear is a joke. Goodness the games are decent but the story and chronology and everything is so convuluted and stupid honestly.

What a fantastic game.
I think I may have finished that game over 20 times. The boss fights were so Boss. (see what I did there)
A classic.

Man, Vagrant Story was such a great game.
I hope we see another in the series.

What game is that ? |
Super Mario World on the SNES. I don't remember what the first game I played on SNES was (it may even have been that but it there were a number of other ones in our library by the time I started playing with my older brother), but that game was the first one I truly fell in love with. Also, all hail Yoshi!
Let's just say that miyamoto did for game design what shakespeare did for literature...took it to its full potential, made it beautiful, has become the standard for what a video game is measured to today
