Forums - Gaming - Did EA mishandle the Titanfall IP?

The shooter market has been saturated for over a decade......Titanfall 2, with a full campaign and more modes/guns etc. can certainly find a place within the pack.

What will push PS gamers to get it? Since KZ isn't exactly a top tier shooter and COD/BF allready peaked. They still sell millions but not as much as they used to.If anything, id expect PS gamers to buy Titanfall 2 in droves.........simply out of spite lol.

i don't know.  like I said.. I'm sure the game will sell.. but i think the numbers will be low, meaning under expectations for a surely to be hyped sequel.  It's definitely going to be an uphill battle for sure to take on the top tier shooters.  Even with the likes of COD/BF having peaked already and is slowly decending, they'll still sell millions just cause of the franchise association.  KZ is KZ.. not bad.. not great, but people will buy it just because the mp is fun, and it being a console exclusive with a loyal following, noone's expecting COD/BF numbers.  The ones to really watch are planetside 2 and destiny.  I think those are going to take a majority of the shooter crowd on the ps4 platform.  Halo & destiny should do the same for the x1.  It will take more than just hype this time to sell it.  also, add more f2p shooters that rival AAA franchises showing up down the road.. gonna be hard to see TF doing well in the grand scheme of things.

One thing I am starting to see is alot of Xbox owners saying that the sequels will sell in droves because of various reasons not related to why people will buy the sequel.  Because of what though?  I'd like to hear more on the PS gamer's perspective.  Whether or not you would purchase a TF sequel when it makes its way to the PS4 and for what reason.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

Well may I point out the succes of Titanfall had less to do with the console availability and more to do with the game itself. It lacked a real campaign, not enough modes and especially weapons. Missing community features as well.

What it does have is cutting edge gameplay mechanics in a saturated genre. So if Titanfall 2 gets the big budget treatment and gets everything done big and right, coupled with marketing, it should do just fine.

I just think your jelly in the end.

the only thing i see is you from an xbox gamer's perspective.  of course you'll believe the game sells on whatever it goes on.. even with the community slowly disappearing, we still hear of defenders saying.. "oh, it's your sever", "oh you got to play it around certain times to find others", "well nobody plays those modes anyways", etc.

all i've heard mostly are nothing to address the points and purpose of this thread which is.. did EA mishandle the TF IP.  Will the sequels sell once on the other platforms?  Did EA stymie the IP by going exclusive.  not.. OMG.. you jelly. TF2 will be Awesome.. orgaz.  Even if the IP is not console associated.. it will be by default because of the exclusivity.

My jelly comment was me reading between the lines as there is a underlying reason why you made this thread......and I doubt its because you are genuinely concerned for EA's properties.

When it comes down to it, EA only mishandled Titanfall by releasing it on a console that is only 5 months old. Modern Warfare released when 360 was 2 years old and PS3 1 year. The install base is simply too small. T2 will be fine.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

welp.. does it occur to you that gamers like myself are willingly to skip out on a sequel because by the time the sequel does make it to our system, TF will more than be irrelevant?  I'd admit during that initial game drought, I would of picked up TF for the PS4 (both systems were needing games), but alas, as time moved on, so has my interest in the game.  You're talking about a sequel that will probably find a release window sometime in late 2016/early 2017 if EA does plan on their 3 year cycle with BF, SW, and TF.  Too many shooters popping out of the woodwork as it is and more in the pipeline, each with their own gimmicks.  I'd be willing to bet that many ps gamers are also coming to the same conclusion. what does this mean long term for the IP as a franchise?  What does it mean for the sale expectations of the sequels?  for many ps4 gamers, like myself, it'll basically be out of sight, out of mind.. and way too late.  you happen to believe the IP will be fine.. but why?  because you got it on your system.. so you can anticpate the upgrades that should happen on the sequel.  What's there to anticipate for the ps gamers?  pc gamers are abandoning the game already as it is.. will these same gamers jump on the same boat twice?  Fool me once, shame on you.  fool me twice shame on me.  will all this eventually hurt/kill the IP and/or sales?  only time will tell.. especially considering the sequel will definitely command a higher budget and just as many ads.  Also given EA will have to foot the bill this time, you know their expectations are only going to be that much higher... but will it?

who says anything about the ps4 or x1 getting crushed?  can you not read? you implied it.. check your own post.  my post was a response that EA assumed x1 sales > ps4 sales off of their own analysis, thus titanfall exclusivity.  talk about getting defense mode over nothing.. and EA doesn't have to say jack about the X1 or PS4 getting crushed.  Last I checked the PS4 is outselling the X1 almost 2:1.. you make what you want out the figures.. or did i make that up too?

Like I said.. civil discussion about anything TF related to you is moot.. checking your post history under this username or your previous is all I need to know how you would respond.  it's all good.. like I said.. i get it.. TF to you is like

Yikes, you're so caught up in ad hominem attacks that you can't even follow the conversation or remember your own posts. Someone else said EA put TF on Xbone exclusively because EA thought PS4 would flop. I replied refuting that. You replied and bolded the part about PS4 flopping, and tried to prove the other poster right with an article that says nothing about it flopping. Now, are you bolding that statement and then trying to prove it correct because you in fact don't believe they thought it would flop? That seems like a highly odd way of going about posting in a forum.

Of course, lets not forget in yet another TF thread you were there spreading the same crap. In this post you not only say EA thought PS4 would flop, but that Xbone would also "blow" the PS4 in sales. Lets check the tapes.. yep, it's even the exact same article you're using in both threads. So lets recap. You think EA believed PS4 would flop, that the Xbox One would "blow" the PS4 in sales, and yet you are upset here because I connect you to an argument you are defending about PS4 getting crushed? Please. Try to be a little less transparent.

Looking forward to the next 4chan gif you can whip out, since you sure don't have any logic to fall back on. I'm just going to ignore you until you can produce something substantial. Cya in the next TF doom thread!

What is the point and purpose of this thread to discuss a game that probably still not in development.  In other words its all just pure opinion.  You make it out as if your opinion is any more valued or reasoned then the person you are bascailly calling a 360 fanboy.  When it all comes down to it, no one knows how or even if TF2 will come out for the PS4 and what impact it will have.  Until there is actual info on the game everyone opinion can be considered an option.

So says the guy whose posted mostly "omg.. TF.. Gotg" threads and comments.  Thank you.. Come again. You can't even fact check the dates to see that there was a timeline there when everything took place.. But's its okay.  Chalk it up to dribble because your only source is a book from respawns end.  Surely that helps your argument for why EA did what they did... But no.. Not even you can do that.. Im sure respawn speaks for EA and MS's behalf too.. Can't bother to check the link that gives that info straight from EA's CFO, but take what Respawn devs says in their book as the holy grail.  Jorgensen said himself exclusivity made sense because of their analysis.  They were expecting higher x1 numbers by TF launch.. but that didn't happen, did it?

Also, did you realize that EA at the time did have high expectations for TF?  They swapped TF and Sims 4 in their lineup expecting the tradeoff should yield the same profitability.  Jorgensen clearly states "we determine it was a exact trade-off with The Sims profitability if that would've also been in the quarter."  Do you know any of the Sims sales numbers?  sims 1 (2 years) sold over 6.3 mil units.  Sims 2 (5 months) sold over 4.5 mil units.  Sims 3 (3months=1 qtr) sold over 3.7 mil units. all on 1 platform.  Titanfall (4 months=1.3 qtrs) sold ~2-2.5 mil) and hype/community dying/declining.  yea.. multiplat on x360,x1, and pc surely met sales expectations because EA says so without numbers.

you can't even provide anything other than the latest article with EA saying TF beat EA's sales expectations without numbers and you take that and run off with it liked it proved your points.  Anyone can use simple logic to get an idea of what EA is really trying to say.  No different from MS touting awesome x1 shipped numbers in the beginning though they were getting eclipsed by the Ps4 sales through.  So pshhh.. Be gone!

Its nuts that of all the posters on this site.. This dude gets worked up the most over anything TF... Yea.. Great indicator of an objective mind.

regardless, this thread is done.  apparently it only attracts the great defenders of x1 with no objective minds.  anything that crosses their beloved turns into a flamebait/console war with them.  Even when the numbers speak for themselves, they find a way to twist it and assume it's some type of trolling.  we will just wait and see.  if TF2 sales numbers end up being mediocre then so be it.. it would be because EA's mishandling of the IP.  which was the topic of this thread to begin with.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..
