Forums - Gaming - Did EA mishandle the Titanfall IP?

LudicrousSpeed said:

This looks like the same spin you or someone else was putting on the same EA comments in yet another "Titanfall failed" type of thread.

Of course, nothing you posted confirms anything remitely close to EA thinking PS4 would be crushed. In fact it even says they are still comfortable with the projections. So are we spinning to create something they didnt say, while at the same time ignoring what they actually did say? Strange. I'll follow you down this road when you provide an actual quote of them saying PS4 would be crushed.

Bwahaha.. Okay... Spin.. From the words of the publisher themselves.. Or did I just make that up?  Oh no.. But the book said, right? Lol. No ones convincing you of anything.. If you don't like the source, deal with it.  Shooting the messenger cus it discredits your opinions.. Whatever..

edit* just realized you are the "TITANFALL GOTG" guy.. go figure why you'd be so defensive.. "unbiased reviews", "MP shooters ruined by Titanfall", 9 out of 10 for an incomplete game, was super hyped for this game, etc.. i'll just take everything you say about TF with lots of salt seeing how in your opinion anything about TF is  so

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..

Awesome! So then post it, instead of posting the article where they say nothing about PS4 getting "crushed" and then putting your own personal spin on it. Or don't, and let me enjoy watching your spinorama.

Titanfall is an xbox console exclusive, we all know that.. but seeing how it is that any future Titanfall IPs will no longer be exclusive to the xbox console, do you think EA is ultimately hurting/potentially stymed the IP by making the first title an exclusive and shunning the playstation community who would of also bought the game?  Adding, because of some of the negative public perception of the game, like the limited game modes, high cost/low content, lacking single player, 6v6, bots, graphics, etc.. this could also create an even more skeptical outlook on any future installments by the playstation community in general.  Granted, there would still be folks on playstation that would buy TF2, but at the same time, many of the playstation community could also choose to turn away from the IP because of the way they were dropped by EA for the first title.  I personally feel, as a PS gamer, being shunned by the 1st title, why would I buy the 2nd title?  Because I don't have the first title, what's the story or lore leading up to the 2nd?  What did I miss out?  Questions like these and other games available at the time of TF2's release could ultimately sway mine and other people's mind when it comes to whether or not to purchase.  This is where I think EA mishandled the Titanfall IP.  Not only did they just ignore a big gaming community by choosing exclusivity, the decision EA ultimately made (because Titanfall 1 was originally meant to go multiplat) will cause the franchise to not be as big as it could be, especially when talking about wanting a COD killer IP.  Regardless of what MS did, EA agreed to the terms.  What do you guys think?

P.S.  I don't want no flaming/trolling and console x is better than console y type convo.  Just want to know your opinions as to how EA handled Titanfall and if their decision of exclusivity could ultimately hurt the TF franchise and any future multiplat installments.

Titanfall did fine. PS fans will get Titanfall 2. Stop being jelly.

"many of the playstation community could also choose to turn away from the IP because of the way they were dropped by EA for the first title"

You view your own brothers in such a petty manner? Rational people don't let console war allegiances define their purchases of games on their own console.

but see it from ms point of view they put the money why should sony benfit from it for all we know the money that they got from ms for going exclusive was needed for the game(i cant remember if that was talked about or not)

well.. if that's the case, then wouldn't it be better to keep it as xbox plat exclusive for all future titles.  I'm just saying.. regardless if xbox funded the game, EA sold the exclusivity.  My point is, by going exclusive for their first title, did EA screw up their chance of having a potential "COD Killer" type IP?  I'm not saying any future titles will not sell, just saying their actions could of potentially pushed away sales from the sony plat.  And by ignoring one gamer base, like I said, what makes that gamer base care about the sequel(s), especially if by that point, more titles could be available on all platforms and they will all be fighting for sales.  COD,BF,Destiny,PS2,etc.. it's going to be shooter saturated by the time the next Titanfall releases..

You realize it took COD 3 tries before Mofern Warfare hit it big......

I think the game did fairly well but I see it fading off in the future instead of dethroning the heavy hitters like COD, BF and Halo

who says anything about the ps4 or x1 getting crushed?  can you not read? you implied it.. check your own post.  my post was a response that EA assumed x1 sales > ps4 sales off of their own analysis, thus titanfall exclusivity.  talk about getting defense mode over nothing.. and EA doesn't have to say jack about the X1 or PS4 getting crushed.  Last I checked the PS4 is outselling the X1 almost 2:1.. you make what you want out the figures.. or did i make that up too?

Like I said.. civil discussion about anything TF related to you is moot.. checking your post history under this username or your previous is all I need to know how you would respond.  it's all good.. like I said.. i get it.. TF to you is like

you really think the sequel is going to generate the same type of hype to PS gamers?  Like I've previously stated.. the sequel will be up against a bunch of other established/will be established shooters by then.. what will push the PS gamers to give it a go over the others?  most PS gamers will not care at that point, which is the point of my post.. sure, it'll still sell, and I'm sure it's going to sell decent, but the purpose of the post is, will it ultimately affect TF as the Cod killing franchise EA wanted?  I believe EA botched up and the franchise will not be as big as it could of been.  personally, it'll be hard to even get to BF numbers, less COD.

Also.. consider Planetside 2 or even destiny when it finally releases for the ps4.  those are going to be massive for the ps4.. and given ps2's longevity, even in the pc scene,  and destiny's hype, it's nothing but an uphill battle for TF when its' sequels release.

No.. getting out of the WW setting and into the modern world made COD big.  COD was mediocre until Modern Warfare.. the perks, gameplay, techs, etc. refreshed the fps genre into what it is today.  TF had a winning formula, gameplay, speed, robots, etc.. just they chose their focus on one console plat instead.  most reviewers and previewers said TF injected much needed change to the FPS genre..

The shooter market has been saturated for over a decade......Titanfall 2, with a full campaign and more modes/guns etc. can certainly find a place within the pack.

What will push PS gamers to get it? Since KZ isn't exactly a top tier shooter and COD/BF allready peaked. They still sell millions but not as much as they used to.If anything, id expect PS gamers to buy Titanfall 2 in droves.........simply out of spite lol.

Well may I point out the succes of Titanfall had less to do with the console availability and more to do with the game itself. It lacked a real campaign, not enough modes and especially weapons. Missing community features as well.

What it does have is cutting edge gameplay mechanics in a saturated genre. So if Titanfall 2 gets the big budget treatment and gets everything done big and right, coupled with marketing, it should do just fine.

I just think your jelly in the end.
