As a huge fan of the series, I really don't want it to be canon. I think Persona 3 FES & Persona 4 wrapped up their stories nicely. I also didn't like that Persona 4 Arena was canon; it's just seems unnecessary, and they're kind of limiting the audiences because of the story.

To be fair, though, you haven't played it. You don't know how the plot goes in Persona Q to see if it really is canon or Atlus is just saying it for saying it.
