So I got inspired by Nintentacles thread about the worst game genre, and I decided that I wanted to make a "Best Game Genre" thread. That's all there is to it. Let everyone one know your favourite genre, and explain why it is the best!

I would say action-adventure. It's an amorphous, hard-to-define genre, but to me it encompasses many of the great series and games of the last 30 years. It combines all the fast-faced, frenetic combat and movement of action games with the more thoughtful and mentally challenging puzzles of adventure games. So it's rewarding on a visceral level and on an intellectual level.

Even games that aren't strictly action-adventure games often benefit from the addition of action-adventure elements.

Man, I was about to do this! Oh well!

My answer is Action/Adventure. It's an amazing combination!

RPGs of course

Platformers

Mega Man
Mario
Donkey Kong
Conker
Banjo Kazooie
Crash Bandicoot
Earthworm Jim
Metroid
Castlevania
Ghosts`n Goblins

I rest my case...

Probably Action-Adventure. Closely followed by RPGs.

A toss-up between action-adventure and RPG. Love them both, can't choose between them. Just like blondes vs brunettes.

RPG.

@bold Yes I totally agree with that! My favourite genre is platforming (I think it's because i'm a nostalgic person and I only played platformers during my childhood), but if you add action-adventure to platforming (perhaps a dash of openworld as well) you have a truly epic game. Think Jak and Daxter: the precursor legacy-ish

action adventure
