Just because one console is your favorite doesn't mean you have to digitally felate them like some users on here do.

I think you are on to something.. but one part you don't see..
The new "fanboys" could be (and i'm pretty sure in some cases are) paid to do negative pr. on game webpages..
This is the lattest form of PR.. Pretend that you are a "normal" consumer.. or mayby even a fan of product X.
I'm a Nintendo fan.. so I use Nintendo in the examble :)
"I have both XOne and PS4.. but The WiiU is just for kids"
or
"I love Ninendo.. but The WiiU is just so underpowered"

You think they're a new breed? Really?
They've existed at least since Sony entered the "race" - that is, when there were three major competing consoles. They probably existed before that, too.
I call them anti-fanboys. They're not so much a "new breed of fanboy", as they are the polar opposite of a regular fanboy. Fanboys are defined by their love of a particular company. Anti-fanboys are defined by their hatred of a particular company. Kind of sad in both cases, but at least fanboys are driven by positivity. This is why the anti-fanboys are so annoying - they go into threads on topics related to their hated company, and make negative comments, usually without concern for context, details, or the opinions/feelings of anybody but themselves.
Unfortunately, people have a tendency to confuse them with regular fanboys, and thus regular fanboys tend to be derided not just for their excessive praise of one company, but also for their excessive hatred of others, even though most regular fanboys don't particularly hate any of the other companies.
In the end, I think the only way to respond to these people is the same as the way to respond to trolls - if you can't identify their weak points (for massive damage :P), ignore them. Anti-fanboys get entertainment from riling up the fanboys and other fans of the company that they hate - in effect, they're kind of like exclusive trolls, in that they like trolling, but only against a certain company.
The Evolutions
Then it breaks off into 2 ways:
The next Generation, I can not tell you. It'll break the fanboy code that I have sworn to. Only a few have obtained this level. If I reveal it, our secrets will be exposed.

The term fanboy here is used in an informational context, and is not flaming, flamebaiting, spamming, trolling, or anything other wise against the rules.
Sony Fanboys didn't really exist until the PS3 era, the console was previously was mainly Nintendo V Sega, but on a much more diminished scale due to the lack of the internet. PS3 was the first time both the PlayStation's Global leading position and US leading position was threatened, so like Sega did, it acquired Fanboys, and like Nintendo in response to Sega, Xbox 360 got fanboys in response to the PS3 fanboys.
Starting with the Wii U's release, Nintendo fanboy's have come back into the fray after the Wii, GameCube didn't really have fanboys, handhelds are another story entirely, and now that we are fully 8th gen, you can see we're still in the transitionary period with the vestiges of last gen, i.e PS Fanboys from last gen, Xbox Fanboys, and Nintendo Fanboys are fighting the Console War, but if PS4 continues to sell well, PS fanboys will ascend to a level of elitism of those of the Wii last year and the PS2 before. And the war will become a lot more visceral.
