Forums - Gaming - [Poll] Do you count a console exclusive as an exclusive?

Well,

Yes 187 40.30%

No 232 50.00%

For retail games 20 4.31%

Maybe because... 24 5.17%

Total:463

Whenever a game is releasing on hardware that is not competing, it is exclusive in my view. Releasing a game on 360/X1 makes it a MS exclusive, even if it is released on PC, since that is also something that benefits MS. Releasing a game on PS3/Vita/PS4 makes it exclusive to Sony since those machines aren't in competition with each other.

there is a term called console exclusive, which means it is only on that console+pc, then there are platform exclusives like a game that is on ps3, ps4 and vita, or on xbox 360 and xbone. then finally there is a normal exclusive, a game that is only on that device/console. adn you can also have a platform+pc combo, like DCUO, for ps3/4 and pc.

Exclusive means it's an item or story published or broadcast by only one source. (according to the dictionary).
So, it's either on only one machine, or it's not an exclusive.

Publishers can market it any way they want, and make up other taglines twisting the original meaning, it's their prerogative. And it's up to the consumer to decide what is right for them personally.

Yes. I don't play games on a pc.

No it doesn't

And what's with "i don't play games on a PC"? Sounds like a poor excuse. I don't play games on Nintendo consoles and Xboxes. I guess everything that's released on PS4 is a PS4 exclusive, even multiplats.

Yes. PC and consoles are seperate markets.

A game being also out on PC has next to no influence on its sales on consoles.

No, PC and consoles were seperate markets in the past.

They have grown together more and more each year for over a decade. Consoles have adopted many features of PCs over the years, some positive (online multiplayer, HDD, multimedia features, internet browser, patches...), some negative (release of unfinished games, boot times, loading times in games...)

Contemporary, PCs got a lot more living-room-friendly (smaller PC cases, fast portable gaming laptops, noise reduction, HDMI-connectivity, gamepad-support for most games, TV-friendly and gamepad-friendly GUIs...)

And do you really believe there is next to no influence between PC and console game sales, when most games are multiplatform developments? The arbitrary line between PCs and consoles already got blurry, it will get even blurrier with the launch of "Steam machines".

Nope. Although i think those without a pc will count is as such. I think the best combo out there to be able to buy 95 percent of all games would be pc, ps4 and wii u. Most games on xbox are historically coming to pc aswell and pc is the only platform to play RTS titles on.

since i have a PC, no.

No. Anything that can be played somewhere else than "that" one platform can't be, by default, called exclusive.

And that old 'PC doesn't count' argument has become real silly in this day and age.

I consider a console exclusive to be exclusive. I don't do any PC gaming, so if I want a game that is available on PC and a single console I need to have that console to play it.
