Forums - Nintendo - What does Nintendo need to do to win next gen?

Nintendo can't win by catering to core gamers anymore. Their reputation would need a massive change for that to happen. After the Wii, the only realistic way they can "win" again is to gain mass market appeal. Otherwise, they will keep selling to only the nintendo faithful for the most part

lol the delusion... the denial.... come on man, do yourself a favour and accept it, the wii U has done hardly anything for the core gamer. What it has done pales in comparison to what Sony, or even MS has done.

You mean 8th gen or 9th gen?

9th gen - next home consol in 2016/2017 with 4 core x86 from Intel with eDRAM and custom Intel GPU much more powerful than Iris-pro, co-processor from Wii U (backward compatibility) .... and Capcom shares :)

Create a next-next gen console, that is comparable in specs/price/and functionality to the ps5 and xbox(two?). They need to get full 3rd party support, get most of their games on the virtual console, and start producing new IP's that attract the core gamer, as well as continue to dish out their old ip's that sell well (mario kart, ssbm, zelda, mario etc.)

Something...Something...Games...Something

Brains.

Get third party support the same as Xbox and Playstation, and make a powerful console that's comparable to whatever Sony and MS makes next gen.

Definitely the concept of the "Fusion" device. A portable device with higher visuals for the Japanese/Portable gaming audience, that comes with a docking station to play on Next-Gen visuals for the hardcore.

1) Drop the "Wii" name.  Wii U was confusing for non gamers and as a result prople think it's an addon for Wii.

2) No more droughts!  Every Nintendo console since SNES seems to have long periods with no good releases of note. Rare at least helped on N64.

3) System should be comparably powerful vs the competition for ports.

4) Pick an audience and cater to them. Right now they say they cater to the hardcore crowd more but release games with a vibrant colorful style which, while it looks great, isn't what your average " hardcore" gamer is looking for.  Even the kids aren't interested in the Wii U apparently; it just caters more to longtime Nintendo fans.

They simply cant. Even if there was a theoritical situation where the U was 2x as powerful as PS4, things would be relatively the same. People would see it and say "I cant see the difference between the 1080p/60fps of the U and the (less framerate/resoultion) visuals on my X1/PS4." Then they would say its all about the games which I know Sony/MS will deliver. I dont want to play Mario for the x100000 time. I cant wait for Halo 5 and Uncharted 4 and God of War 4. I think the main gaming core is established in either the MS or Sony camp and Nintendo cannot do anything(including making games better than the Sony/MS regulars) to change that.

The only way they can win is find something that captures pop cultures eye, like the Wii did. Even a console in that situation would suffer the same fate as Wii and move consoles but not a ton of 3rd party software. Wii U is not doing poorly because of lack of 3rd party support, its because the core gaming group has a mostly unwavering loyalty to one brand or another that is not Nintendo.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

For Nintendo to even compete they would need to accept all the standards that gamers expect from Playstation and Xbox
