  • 47% of all tweets sent out during last week's E3 expo mentioned Nintendo

In comparison, PlayStation claimed 28 percent of the Twitter conversation, while Xbox claimed 25 percent. So in that regard, it's perfectly plausible to say that Nintendo "won" this year's E3.

This doesn't take into account the semantics of the tweets. For all we know, 80% of the tweets that mention Nintendo could negative towards Nintendo.

the same for Sony and Microsoft

Yep, of course.

Honestly, tweets don't mean anything if the sales don't change.

I have to disagree. Twitter is hardly ever a reliable source for pretty much anything, as it can be insanely deceiving. Gossip Girl and pretty little liars are two of the most tweeted series. Their ratings? Worse than almost all Fox, ABC and CBS tv shows. Same with Vampire Diaries. Yes, people talk about them on twitter, but is it really an indication of anything?

From my limited experiece from using twitter, the ones who use twitter the most are teenage girls. I don't know what percentage of wiiu owners (or potential owners) are female, but didn't Ninty mention that half of the wii install base was female?

Also, two more things: a) the time that Ninty's event took place compared to Sony's (I live in the UK and was asleep when it happened). People who use twitter seem to tweet the most when something is taking place (so less people would be inclined to tweet after waking up). b) You've seen how vocal the psvita fanbase is. Had a few big games been announced for psvita, I'm sure it would has almost as many tweets as wiiu had. They are both vocal fanbases starving for new titles (generalization, I know), so of course their fans get excited, while ps4 owners pretty much know that Sony will deliver when it comes to the ps4. It's all a matter of when rather than if.

I'm just gonna leave you with one example of how unreliable twitter can be: Wonderbook. When the game was announced at E3, I remember that it was trending on twitter. It was the only game trending (or the highest trending game). Yet look at it's sales. Was it actual interest in the game or just people talking about it on twitter?

That is actually shocking.

The conference with the best format and most interesting announcements was the most popular! Very shocking I know!

My statement wasn't really exclusive to Nintendo, but yeah if one party becomes very vocal then it's not surprising that the movement against that party becomes very vocal as well.

Or maybe the noise from e3 has nothing to do with the U's sales and the vocality of the fanbase, but with the content shown at e3.

Just maybe.

Who do you think the people making all those tweets are? It's the fanbase. Who do you think all the people making thread over thread on gaming forums about all the Nintendo news are? It's the fanbase. Who do you think made all those Nintendo posts and upvoted them last week on Reddit? It's the fanbase. Who are the people making the youtube videos? It's the fanbase.

It's really naive to believe that this E3 had any real life impact on most customers view on Nintendo, or that it managed to create some kind of buzz that will help Nintendo do better now, the more realistic explanation is that Nintendo does still have alot of fans on the internet and that those fans take any kind of "positive" Nintendo news and make a huge deal about it, case in point is for example all the fuzz that is made about Hyrule Warriors, which is getting a ridiculous amount of hype for what the game actually is. So take those Nintendo fans and an event like E3 and you could suddenly believe that the whole world owns a Wii U, when in reality it's just those fans making alot of noise.

Surprising. But a new Zelda does get people excited.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

that bold gives me hope that more girls will  get wii u

just got to advertise it

like

"We at Nintendo are open to having the most female playable characters unlike our rivals."

Maybe...but I doubt Nintendo would do something like that.

And everyone knows Nintendo have more female characters anyway. Look at Smash Bros.

true

this reminds me of capcom's pocket fighter....

No, it's to do with audience and what was shown I agree, but Nintendo didn't show anything that would appeal to casual audiences (this sales won't reflect their E3 hype). They appealed to the Nintendo core thus all the twitter and forum noise. PS4 and XB1 showed a lot of stuff similar of course, but a lot of their games, Call of Duty ect appeals to an audience that isn't likely to "spread the word" on twitter or forums.

Not to mention, how many multiplat PS4/XB1 games were talked about on twitter? Those are people talking about XB1 or PS4 (or PC) but not WiiU. Factor that in and it would be largely in PS4 and XB1 favour.

No ex boxers here and that's doin shite

let Wii U shine for at least one week people. PS4 still will be the leader
