Forums - Nintendo Discussion - is Splatoon receiving more attention because its an exclusive Nintnedo shooter?

I don't get the comparisons with indie games or eShop games...while it is true that we have only seen a small amount of content, that doesn't mean the game will be small. We already have single player and multiple online modes confirmed so where does that thinking come from?

That's the thing. There seems to be this misconception that indie = small. Or, putting it in another way, indie =/= a real game

This game will be big, that's why it's getting the attention. It probably had one of the bigger spaces for itself at E3. Any game with the space it was occupying would garner quite the attention and Nintendo is just the tip of the iceberg.
I think I read somewhere that Nintendo wants this game to penetrate the shooter market, like Mario Kart did with the racing market.

well, the look and concept reminds me a lot of Team Fortress 2... only instead of killing people (though you are making them explode....) you are spraying with ink. I don't know, personally I think it looks like a lot of fun.

How can they think that when they didn't put Mario in the game? xP

Because the gameplay looks very interesting,

plus multiple weapons make it look even better.

Why the hate? This game looks fun, it's as simple as that. Not to mention it uses gameplay ideas not used before.

just because i am pointing out an observation i had about a game does not mean i am hating on it.

You said it yourself that it doesn't deserve the praise it's getting, even though you know it's a fun game and started comparing it to the likes of The Division which is just ridiculous.

How exactly does he "know it's a fun game"? It's not like there is a beta or a demo for it out already.

Yes it's getting more attention because it's from Nintendo (one of the best, if not the best game publisher in the world) and specifically from EAD which is the most legendary studio in the business.

There's nothing unusual about that.

It's like saying "is Destiny getting more attention because it happens to be a new shooter from Bungie, the developers of Halo?" ... well ... yeah. So?

This game has the potential to be the Mario Kart of multiplayer shooters. That's why its getting all the attention.

could you explain that? didnt really get what you are trying to say.

Accessible to everybody, insanely fun in both local and online multiplayer, with unque gameplay mechanics and lots of depth for the most enthusiastic players to dig into, all delivered with a high amount of polish. I don't want to pre-judge, because the game hasn't shipped yet, but I can see the potential. This is exactly the kind of game that Nintendo should be making.

In the same way that Mario Kart reaches an audience beyond the car enthusiasts who buy Gran Turismo, and Smash Bros eclipses Street Fighter, I see can see Splatoon reaching beyond the audience that typically plays multiplayer shooters. When you consider how popular the genre is, that's a huge potential audience.

The downside is that there's no instant Mario brand recognition, and the install base is tiny, but I truly believe this could be the birth of a new mega franchise.

Yeah, but then what gives this the look of an indie game? Why does this feel like an eShop game? I don't understand that part of it and nobody seems to be able to explain it

I did explain it, do I need to elaborate?

I would like that...you said that it looks like a game that wouldn't get a retail release but what exactly does that mean?
