Forums - Gaming - Why is Nintendo getting praised for disc locked content?

Nintendo's idea for them was dumb, because now they need shoehorn every character into every game or else many of the amiibo figures will be near worthless compared to others.

Take Mario, use him in SSB, MK and probably 20 games by generations end at least, may even patch features in NSMBU or 3D World.
Then look at Samus...SSB...and if you're lucky 1 Metroid game before this gen is over.

Makes a Mario Amiibo much more valuble than a Samus. Only way to fix this is by shoehorning in more characters into more games.

What about the poor kid whose clueless mom buys him the Wii Fit trainer?

I hate it too. but those figures do look pretty badass.
im going to get them but not for the features just for cosmetics.

You are really grasping at straws to reach your conclusion.

PS: Amiibo will suck anyway.

These features all seem completely useless to me. Would have been smarter for Nintendo to just make a full fledged game incorporating NFC tech. I'll still probably buy some of the figures for decoration rather than game use.

And people are underestimating the amount of money this will make, heh

Generally I've seen way more interest in the figures themselves than in the function they serve in Smash Bros.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.... Oh... you're serious. You must be new to this toy-game concept.

eeeh nope. Not disk locked content as it's all customizable features. Your figurine is unique to you. Plus this is Nintendo figurines, they'll sell like hotcakes to collectors.

I don't think Nintendo has unveiled all their plans with amiibo yet, so it's too early to say if it will suck. Not a big fan of the whole thing myself, but I'll probably buy a Samus Aran figurine anyway. :) I'd love to see a Metroid figurine as well, or a Ridley figurine.

And maybe I'll also buy the Link figurine!

It's not disc-locked content. Information is actually stored inside the figure, believe it or not. That, and the fact that the figure will work for multiple games. It's not even the same thing as DLC, and I don't think most people will really be missing out on much for not getting it. Plus, DLC = digital, Amiibo = physical. That's also significant in the fact that the figure has more value than just being used for a game. Like others have said, there are people willing to get them just as figurines. You can't do that with DLC.

It's not really locked content though... it is but it isn't. You will buy one and it will work with any title that has the feature. Plus it is not like having these figures will do much for the gameplay especially for smash... like... you can watch your figure play... But I tend to look at these kind of like a pet in a way. You kind of raise it how you want, put the specs in the way it wants and your figure will not be the same as someone else figure even if they are the same character. I tend to look at it as a good tool to improved you Smash skills as well. The other reason why I say it is not locked content is because these characters are already available on the game. You do not need the amiibo to get them where as with Capcom you did. I tend to look at this as what Skylanders does and Disney does only you can use these on a variety of Nintendo titles where as them, it is just the skylanders game and the infinity game.
