"No, it won't be top-down," he said. "It's always going to be a 2D platformer."

Oh I see, thought you were to lazy to read the link.
Yes, Nintendo should go the Valve road and let the mod-community help them (or do the work that they do not do themself)!
The possibilities are endless, Zelda Maker, Metroid Maker, Kirby Maker, Nintendo is sitting on a potential goldmine here.
Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
Donkey Kong seems like the next logical step, but DK games usually have very detailed levels. They could do build your own original DK arcade levels. That'd be sweet!
I think it might be fun to create custom maps in Fire Emblem or Advance Wars, as long as it doesn't detract anything from the main game.
A lot of platformers would be fun, like Megaman and Yoshi too....but I think what I'd really enjoy is being able to combine different games into one, or bringing different elements into the same game. I remember playing this flash game years ago that let you play through Super Mario Bros. using Samus, Megaman, Link, and several other NES sprites, and thinking there'd be a lot of potential in that. So much fun blasting Goombas with the Mega Buster.
Something along the lines of a custom NES Remix maybe?
