The reason that Ninty didn't show this on the main event is probably because it's still early in development and being shifted from 360/PS3 to WiiU very recently.
I wouldn't be surprised if it slips to 2016 so it gets some proper TLC.
Early impressions = meh
After looking at those gifs (I have not seen the Treehouse stream) = Ok, kind of cool and weird.
So the multiplayer could be its best part while the single player may be a little lackluster.
It could gain a cult following BUT in order to sell decent numbers it will need to be promoted quite a bit.
Marketing sells ANYTHING!

Agreed. At least Nintendo are trying. The are trying to have more diverse games.
It bloody obvious from the Wii u sales that a different approach is needed. This may or may not work but I give them full marks for effort.
Nintendo fans are a strange bunch. Nintendo revealed a new IP and all they ask about is the old stuff, but that's a different conversation.

I hope they work on it and release it in Spring 2015, despite the Wii U needing all the games it can get, I think this will just be overshadowed by Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros, like Wonderful 101 was overshadowed by Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World.
It's a very promising game, and if it sells decently, 3rd parties might support the U again. It does need some polish, but I'm sure it'll have 2015 release.

The multiplayer actually looks pretty fun after watching that.
Sadly, the single player game with the bald and tatooed rock drummer doesn't do it for me.
