Forums - Nintendo - Wiiu in trouble with no third party support

You forgot Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 in October from Platinum Games.

I think you're underestimating the amount of people that have a decent PC and Wii U. Best combination IMO.

I think you're overestimating it. Take a look at the steam hardware survey, the average specs wont do next gen games justice. Most people will opt for a console over a gamng PC, we are the minority.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Well, most third party games come out on PC, so I don't care about being in the minority. :P I'm already in the minority with the Wii U anyway!

We already knew Wii U had lost the 3rd party support. First, because of its design decisions (it's a piece of 7th gen tech). Then, because of the miserable 3rd party sales. That was a given already before E3.

People who do not understand the Wii U hardware are the first to say it's 7th gen. Considering everything they've seen (Mario Kart 8, Zelda U and Xenoblade Chronicles X) they still believe the Wii U to have the graphical prowess of the last generation consoles. This goes far beyond logic and reason. This is a thought process that burned deep into their memory and they cannot shake that false preconception.

I don't know what people you're talking about. I'm free of preconceptions and I don't see Wii U going graphically further than PS3 or X360.

Considering what you've seen, do you think this:

is superior to this?

Do you think this:

is superior to this?

I doubt Wii U will ever present a game graphically superior to Gran Turismo 5. I'm not saying Wii U is inferior to PS3, but it surely isn't superior. And, even if it was slightly better, it wouldn't be 1 generation ahead. That's for sure.

Not only the games (which are the ultimate results) show that but also the hardware specs. Wii U has more RAM but less processing power than PS3.

Not only the games and the specs show that but also the 3rd party decisions. They made versions to Wii U of games they launched on PS3 and X360. Now that they're skipping PS3 and X360 to create games fully 8th gen on PS4 and XOne, they're also skipping Wii U.

Is it me, the specs and the 3rd parties all wrong and you're the one right? Are we going far beyond logic and reason? Only if those videos are lying, the specs are lying and 3rd parties don't want to maximize profits.

The only thing 8th gen about Wii U is its launch date. Let me tell you something: Amazon Fire TV is another 8th gen console.

Comparison 1)

Umm... Yes. Mario Kart 8 looks better because it's doing a lot more than GT5 is graphically.

Comparison 2)

Are you comparing Zelda to a game no one has heard anything about for nearly a decade? We aren't even sure this is real gameplay - and even if it is real gameplay, we only see the characters and not much of the surrounding environment. There's really nothing to compare here.

Comparison 3)

You found the wrong "Xenoblade Chronicles" video. Last I checked, Final Fantasy 13 doesn't have the scale in which Xenoblade Chronicles X has. The Wii U is doing a lot more graphically.

How about Need for Speed Most Wanted U?

How many times must this myth need to be debunked before people like you understand?

You really can't lose something you never really had. Those half baked attempts by EA for example where nothing serious.

Nintendo never really ever had GOOD 3rd party support when compared to the opposition. I am talking of the modern console age, not the NES era.

What truly amazes me is that Nintendo themselves haven't figured this out. So rather than invest some of that money in developing studios they sit on their asses and bemoan the third parties.

If you are going to build systems like Nintendo do, then hope for a gimmick that work to draw sales (like the wiimote) or back it yourself.

They have come to the conclusion that they have to find their own software for the system by buying exclusives like Bayonetta or producing their own but these things take time and should have been planned long ago.

If Nintendo releases another home console chances are we will see this same scenario being played out all over again as with this and the last gen. Someone just isn't learning.

I really hope the Wii u can get to GameCube sales figures. That will be a relative success.

Half baked? I don't know. NFS:MWU is pretty f'ng gorgeous for what it is...

But it was an old game. OK. I'll give you that one.

It's just the way EA verbally insulted the Wii U and Nintendo in General that makes me say it was half cooked.

I think Nintendo is positioned well and they are getting some nice 3rd party exclusives like Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third.  In the modern era there aren't a lot of retail game releases in general so gamers are going to be looking to a second system to fill the gap and Nintendo is the obvious choice here since they don't charge for online and are far and away the dominant exclusive high quality game provider. Moreover their exclusives offer gamers a variety wheras Sony and Microsoft exclusives are often trying to copy eachother and mark checkmarks in the box for certain game types. You don't need to buy a xbox one for Fortza when PS4 has drive club ect. You don't need to buy a ps4 for Killzone and the order when Xbox one provides Gears and Halo.  Nintendo just needs to continue delivering high end exclusives and move their system price in a downward direction and they will end up being the second console of choice for ps4 and xbone owners and the first console of choice for Nintendo fans.

This is what I hoped will be the case. The Wii u is priced just right to be considered a second console for many. Nintendo has something the other two don't offer and as you said the other two basically offer the same thing.

I think going forward Nintendo has to market the console this way. They need more Bayonettas and more in house developers.

Zelda looks graphically better than anything you showed on PS3. I dare even say it looks better than a lot of XBONE or PS4 games. It has a great artstyle, something you can't say of GT5 or even that trailer from the Last Guardian which didn't look remotely special to me.

SubiyaCryolite has pretty much said everything regarding this comment of yours.

Art is a different matter. You very well know that I said "a piece of 7th gen tech". "Tech" means technology, which is different from art.

All the games you showed looked mediocre and bland. Zelda looks better. A lot better. You need the technology to make your artstyle come alive, otherwise you end up with Skyward Sword. I guess you people just look at the character models and scream "OH MY GOD, not realistic!".

To me Destiny also looks like a piece of 7th gen tech, but you don't see me constantly spouting that around lol. Am I really to believe that game has a budget of €500 million? What a waste of money, 80% of the budget probably went into marketing lol.

I say ignore Zod, as he's known for being quite biased against Nintendo (as seen with some of his previous threads).

I imagine he thinks he's speaking objectively, but quite honestly I know that he isn't.  So it is a waste to argue with him because he wont budge from his position, even if you objectively prove he is incorrect.

At the same time, though, you aren't using the best argument to begin with.  Art style definitely matters when it comes to this.  On the technical side it looks different, but the evaluations I see being made are ninjablade-esque.

I'd rather play Nintendo games than any 3rd party console games out there.......and if I want to play 3rd party i will on my PC. So really there is no point in owning anything but a Nintendo Console
