Play Wind Waker GCN on your Wii. Play A Link Between Worlds. Play Minish Cap. You aren't beyond saving. OoT isn't as great as everyone says. If you didn't play it when it came out, you can only really appreciate it after playing many Zelda games. It hasn't aged as well as others like Wind Waker.
EDIT: And Twilight Princess is even more over rated than OoT. Trust me, if you weren't impressed by OoT, you'll be less impressed by TP. You liked the DS Zelda's. You'll fall in love with Wind Waker.
The Minish Cap is fun and not doesn't have confusing dungeons. But you'll need an emulator for that. Unless your DS is a DS Lite of course.

I'm one of those who is not really big fan of OoT, so I know where you're coming from, but I liked TWP quite a bit - despite it being Aonuma Zelda, and more or less continuation of OoT design philosophy. Wind Waker is also good choice, some around here would argue that it is the best choice. ;) |
I played every 3D Zelda game and I hated Twilight Princess the most.
Its by far the most soul-less Zelda and needs fan service to survive (Epona which is semi useless and the one place inside the forest wont say more because of spoiler) Wasted the chance to introduce the coolest Zelda race every by introducing skinhead chickens with boobs instead. (talk about mystical ancient tribe blah blah etc and then this....)
Not much to explore in Hyrule does the rest. Where are my "ground holes" at?
Some versions of the game have FAIL translation mistakes (which are simply not allowed to exist in a Zelda game! How can you forget to change the Gamecube translation of Hyrule WEST to Hyrule EAST for the Wii? Since when is WEST on the right side of the map rofl!!!) and everytime you find a stupid rupee after you turned off the console the game explains to you what a stupid rupee is....
Also not a gameplay thing but the game looked dated when it came out and still looks worse than GC WInd Waker. Wind Waker had the ocean alot of people thought that was completely boring but for me it was part of the "I have to explore the world by ship because thats what people in this world do." aspect and I loved the game.
And the only bad thing about Skyward Sword is the streamlined design. Choose 3 levels instead of a connected world (very dumb decision) which made skyloft just a "lobby" to enter the other 3 "rooms" and so skyloft is empty too....

OOT is 16 years old FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE.
It is NOT overrated. If you played it upon release you would now this.
I might as well say that Metal Gear Solid (PSOne) is extremely overrated due to it's archaic gameplay mechanics.
16 years old.

Apparently you've never heard hardcore Zelda fans talk about it. It's Nintendo FF7.
Play Wind Waker HD because it's extremely charming and it's also slightly better than the original game! Also, don't listen to the people saying Twilight Princess! That one is easily the worst 3D Zelda game ever!

Spirit Tracks is the worst Zelda in my opinion, lol. Maybe Zelda 1 & 2 are even less enjoyable (I never finished them), but you have to judge them by NES standards.
A Link to the Past and Wind Waker (HD) are my favourite Zeldas and they're also good for beginners.
You can play Wind Waker (GC) on Wii, but a used copy in good condition might be more expensive than Wind Waker HD, lol.

Whatever you do don't get Twilight Princess. It's the worst Zelda game ever. Then again, you didn't like Ocarina of Time...

TP is not the answer. It's just a dumbed down version of OoT without magic, and easy bosses/dungeons.
Unfortunately, your soul is not able to handle any Zelda love. Your fate is sealed.
