No, there is a lot of filler in Beyond and Heavy Rain that has nothing to do with the actual story.

Sometimes you're just interacting with crap in the enviornment just waiting for an event.

Most JRPG discussions are about the story, not the gameplay. I got some experience with the genre, take my word for it.

No, its all about marketing!

For example, Last of Us was pushed for it story and visuals. So much so that people ignored the gameplay was... average.
