i love it when people defend ryse, it just shows how far people are willing to go to defend a crappy game just because its exclusive.

Or they enjoyed the game.

This is like saying watchdogs would have been better if it was made by rockstar.
Its true and the reason its true is because Quantic Dream specialise in interactive drama the same way Rockstar specialise in open world action games.

And you cant just label any action game which didnt meet your expectations as an interactive drama... even if you do, it doesnt make any difference because even in that genre it wouldnt have been respected any higher.

But it was definitely better respected than Ryse by the critics (which made sense, given one was rushed for a console launch, while the other was prettied from the foundation of a previous critical/commercial success). I don't agree that Ryse would have been praised, per se, had it been a Quantic game, but I do believe it would have been respected a tad more, due to such.

All things considered, if nothing else, and despite a sub-70 Meta, a base has been made for Ryse 2. It's just the question of whether Crytek decide to stick to a similar formula, which can work, under the right recipe.

I think you get what I'm saying.

If Ryse was a Quantic Dream game, I'm certain they would have gotten praise for trying something different with sexy graphics. Sony would have also received a thumbs up for backing a unique project.

Ryse is more akin to PS3 QD games. But people on the web apparently had the expectation of a GoW killer! What if Crytek pushed this as a cinematic adventure like a QD game and not a hack n' slash game. That might have changed expectations.

Well I played Heaavy Rain, it was alrigt. IMO Ryse blew HR away. Id replay Ryse over HR any day of the week.

You'd play any Xbox game over any PlayStation game, regardless of their quality.

no your wrong. Most PS exclusives I dont like  to much. Generally speaking. But Uncarted was pretty good but GOW was awesome. I just prefer MS exclusives more. They feel better and play better to me. Anyway this is about Heavy Rain. QTE heavy game.

That's precisely how I feel about Xbox exclusives. Just replace Uncharted with Gears Of War and GOW with Halo.

As for the QTEs, both Heavy Rain and Ryse are guilty of it. Anyhow I don't like either game. In fact after playing the GOW games all other hack n slash games feel, unplayable to me, they are just that good.

GOW is amazing. Such a good marry of story and gameplay. I do enjoy me some Kratos.

Yeah in fact I think its much better than Uncharted. I don't know why PS fans praise Uncharted so much when their is God Of War around.

And I'm also jealous of you Xbox owners, you got Halo! I think I'm gonna get an X1 once Halo Collection/Halo 5 arrives.

I actually bashed Ryse when it came out for not being a more fleshed game adventure game and reliance on QTEs.

Yet here I am playing PS3 Quantic Dream games. Linear titles that focus on telling a story and very reliant on QTEs.

A mediocre game is a mediocre game no matter what the dev wants people to focus on.

No, its all about marketing!

For example, Last of Us was pushed for it story and visuals. So much so that people ignored the gameplay was... average.

Except it wasn't just praised for its visuals and story, both players and critics were rather open about how damn good everything was, gameplay included.

You're free to believe it was average, but you're making a pretty baseless assumption in saying that almost every critic and gamer who played it magically wouldn't have noticed if 90% of the game was simply "average" :P Story is great, but without some unique hook (such as the control games like HR or TWD gave you over the story) it will never and has never been a singular basis for critical acclaim. Nor have visuals for that matter.

Apples and oranges.

Also, the GoW trilogy ended in 2010. People might be intrigued again when they start a new story.

Last year I completed Beyond: Two Souls and recently I began playing Heavy Rain (I'm about half way done with it). And it got me thinking... Ryse should have been marketed for its story and graphics not gameplay. Much like games from Quantic Dream.

Think about it, Ryse is a cinematic game with lots of button prompts, fantastic visuals, and a good story. We should be praising for being a well executed cinematic experience the same way Quantic Dreams titles are praised. Not trashing it for being a mediocre hack n' slash game.

Eh?

Can't tell if you are serious...  If so...well idk I don't want to get banned lol so I will just stop there!

Based on the ign review for ryse, it didn't matter if you pressed the right button for QTEs. The other big difference is determined by YOU in heavy rain. I've played through heavy rain 4 times, and got 4 completely different endings. They're different games made for different purposes, and it doesn't make sense to compare the two.
