I think the Xbox One will do well in Japan. It is realising there at a much lower price and already has some Japanese exclusives and is heavily rumoured to have even more.

I don't think having an exclusive visual novel will move any units...

I understand why MS wants to release the X1 in Japan, but let's face it. It isn't going to do much there, especially when the PS4 has already established a userbase there despite that it hasn't been selling that well. Sony doesn't really need to try to get Japanese exclusives. Gust, Nippon Ichi, Compile Heart, Nacmo Bandai, and others will release games only on Playstation. Yes, they're niche, but their games are nevertheless moderately popular in Japan.

I really don't understand these "it just needs exclusive jrpgs" claims. The 360 had a bunch of those and the system didn't even got to 2 million there.

It got like 6 of them over the span of 3 years, and most of the 360's 1.6 million sales came from those 3 years. If Microsoft hadn't discontinued their exclusive support it could have hit at least 2.5m if not 3 million.

Which is still really not that high compared to the PS3's 10 million or so. Hell, the 360 version of FFXIII wasn't even released in Japan at first.

I'd argue the exact opposite with the Wii U and ps4 not doing as well as their predecessors I think this would be a good time to make a push into the market and try to expand.

The PS4 is also compact and sleek, from a VERY trusted beloved local brand. And it's barely moving. I'm glad the XB1 is launching there just to show people the painful reality that Japan is basically in a post home console era. The level of failure for xb1 there will blow people's minds.

X1 will do bad but I don´t think they will loose money, so why not make the fans in Japan happy by releasing it?

Not with the numbers they'll pull there, porting to DX/XB1 won't be worth potentially selling 500 copies. And translating for US market obscure games will barely make sense for PS4 in the US, not at all for XB1. US buyers buy XB1 for bro shooters, and that's basically it. Just look at the charts. Even Shenmue 3 would sell badly on PS4/XB1 compared to dev costs.

Home consoles are already on life support in Japan, launching a gigantic one there now is asking for pain, and 40,000 yen is suicide.

They have to make those 3 dedicated Japanese Xbox fans happy, you know!

It will sell more in Japan than most of the European countries.
