Look this up on vgchartz if you want to. Even the Wii U and PS4 are falling short in Japan, and Nintendo/Sony used to rule there. Microsoft has never had a place in Japanese gaming, and this would only be a loss if released there like all the others. I think they should just push for Western countries and not in Japan.Tell me what you think. 

Considering the PS3 was a jump from SD to HD, online play was included out of the box, and the PS3 actually had exclusive games and next gen exclusive games within its first year, the PS4 isn't doing so bad in comparison.

Currently, PS4 is trailling 1.3 million behind the PS3 if you compare how many months each has been out, and that's not including the full month of May for the PS4, even though that'd hardly make a difference.  That's really not that bad when you consider the PS3 from the PS2 was going from SD to HD, it included online compatibility out of the box, and unlike the PS4, it actually had several exclusives and next gen exclusives within the first few months of release.  Almost no titles on the PS3 were cross gen.  

I know we'll see atleast 37 more threads from Nintendo fans about the PS4 not selling in Japan or doing worse than the Wii U, because they need something to gloat over when the Wii U outsold within five months of the PS4s release, and inevitably when the Xbox One surpasses Wii U sales.  I guess no one wants to give it time when they can praise it right now as a win for their preferred console and won't be able to when that time comes. 

Hmm I mean it will be fun for a moment, a couple of laughs watching the sales numbers, then a bit of doom and gloom and then just sadness, so maybe you're right.

Localization, support, infrastructure, dilution of resources : XB1 will lose money in Japan handily.

I hope the X1 could cell decently there, at least better than the 360. All Microsoft really needs to do is gather a bunch of exclusive Jrpgs. I remember early in the 360's life when it had Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Oydssey, Blue Dragon, Infinite Undiscovery, and The Last Remnant, all exclusive, and it was outselling the Ps3 there. But MS became complacent with just that and stopped getting all those exclusives. So its possible, but we have to see if it will actually get done. It already has 3 japanese exclusives, and as someone said before, theres rumors that there are more.

To bad, it is anyway.

PS3 outsells PS4/etc there, and expensive consoles are dead in Japan. A handful of exclusives there will barely sell a handful of consoles. Look for weeks of 100 or less units sold. It will be worse than a joke, it will just be sad and pathetic.

I really don't understand these "it just needs exclusive jrpgs" claims. The 360 had a bunch of those and the system didn't even got to 2 million there.

The entire home console market in Japan has collapsed. If it were a handheld it might do okay. A 40,000 yen gigantic box is going to burn hard.
