because i have a wii. more games are being released for the wii then i have time/money for as is. so what motivation do i have to pay even $300 to have even more gaming options when i don't have time for all my options as is especially since Ratchet and LBP are the only ps3 games i'm even remotely interested in. i'd rather put that $300 into wii games or beer or just about anything else.

There are more games on the wii than I can play as it is. I don't really need another system. So no, I probably wouldn't. I dunno, I might frivelously decide to, but the price isn't what's stopping me from buying one. I could go buy one right now if I felt like it.

And if you're trying to demonstrate that this means Sony domination as soon as it it hits a certain price point you're way off. The wii has won the battle in the public eye. I think it was either phil harrison or peter molyneux that accurately stated "if you ask the public what the real next gen system is, they will answer 'the wii'". The PS3 suddenly isn't going to become popular just because it becomes cheap, any more than the gamecube became popular when it was 150 or 99 dollars. Public perception. In the eye of the majority of beholders, it's the loser.

Too many other games to play.

I'd buy a PS3 right now if it wasn't for the fact that i've still got about 7 Wii games and 3 Computer games i've yet to play through.

That's not counting the 4-6+ other games that 299 could buy me.

It's silly to buy more hardware when your drowining in software.

Also the problem with this thread is that it's on a videogame website. Where pretty much only "serious" videogame players hang out... who are a very small part of the overall consumer base. Making this site very unrepresentative of the general populace.

Well that and you don't know the situation of the PS3 when it's at $199-$299. The price of Blu-ray players and where the PS3 is at numbers wise matter a lot. Behind far enough and it just becomes a new gamecube.

Also, 299 40 gig with full backwords compatability by the end of the year seems like a pipedream.  Either way.. 199 is when it'll hit mass market. 

a) gamepads are obsolete controlling mechanisms

b) $200 gets me 4 wii games; as someone who has a family, i don't have more than a few hours a week max for console gaming, so no time for ps3 games; don't even have time to finish zelda/etc...that's also why i'm gonna instead buy a ds for 129 because i can play that at more times than i can play a console

c) by the time ps3 is $199, wii will have well over 50% of the market and most developers will be pushing their best games to wii, just like what happened with ps2...

d) by the time ps3 is $199, the ps4 will be on the horizon with full motion/ir controls; i will consider that console at that time

to u the ps3's graphics/cell/etc are more valuable than the wiimote/vc/wiiware...to others it's not...it's not a 'strange thing to feel' when someone has differing opinions and priorities than u

 the archos gmini had color lcd screen, played movies, played games, had compact flash slot to function as photo wallet, etc etc etc, yet it cost less than an ipod, but most consumers found that they'd rather pay more for ipod than less for gmini because of the scroll wheel/design/branding/word of mouth

Ohh, another point... by the time the PS3 is $199 (say £150) the Wii will be $150-175 (say £110-120) so I would probably buy another of those so I don't have to cart the Wii downstairs and set up all the wires etc.

Games suck. Graphics are it's main. I can't tell the difference between Blu Ray and HD.

I would not buy one at $600... nor $500... and not for $400. I prob. will not get one at $300, but would consider it when it hits $200. But I think I have a long time to ponder that decision. ;)

I would buy one for $299. Who wouldn't want play the AAA games like Call of Duty 4, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted and play true 1080p HD movies. I would also buy a 360. The true systems.
