Forums - Nintendo - [Aonuma wants to take fan reaction into account while developing Zelda U] Official Zelda Wii U Fact Thread

New info:

Like I said earlier in the thread, this game is most likely not going to be open world in the same sense as western open world games.

"But Shigeru Miyamoto, the leading video game developer working at the company, believes that both fans and investors who are seeing the title as one of the most important launches for the Nintendo home console should be careful about the hopes they place upon it."

"“I prefer not to use the generally used term ‘open world’ when developing software, but we used this term in order to make it easier for consumers to understand."

I will definetly get the game, open world or not, but I don't think people should set high expectations this early, only to be let down later.

I think Aunoma once said that he would try to tie together all the time lines now after SS, I guess this could be the first step in that direction

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

"Since we're talking about open worlds, let's state upfront that we don't plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years." - Aonuma

"Many people from the media kept asking me if the footage from the new Zelda game for Wii U is just a promotional movie, but that really is actual gameplay [in-game assets] on Wii U." - Aonuma

This is what I was afraid of. I looks likes some kind of crappy quick time event. Zelda does not need QTEs, let alone dum ass mechanical laser shooting beasts.

It was not a quick time event.  It was just a little movie put together using the real game.  Be like watching a Mario kart highlight reel.  Pretty sure they are using angles in that, that are not possible when driving a race.

Have you played a Zelda game before?  Enemies have been shooting lasers for many many years.  Have you forgotten about the totem pole eye that when it sees you it shoots out a LASER beam at you?

I have played every single Zelda game, including the CD-i version, and yes im well aware 'lasers' have been in the game. This monster seems beyond what ive seen before.

I am still worried that this is showing a QTE addition to the game. Zelda is the _last_ game I still could like from Nintendo. I have been so disappointed with Zelda, especially the 2 from last gen, that I actually SOLD my Wii, TP, and SS I was so disgusted.

Think of it the same way you thought of the tech demo. They were letting people change the camera angle and whether it was day or night to show it was running on the Wii U (by allowing people to manipulate what was on screen). But, the player was not controlling Link in that demo. This is the same thing (minus people changing camera angles, ect, you get the point), a video of the in game graphics showcasing the new Legend Of Zelda.

He's basically saying that it won't be open world. By the looks of it it will be very similar to Oot and Majora's but with more freedom in terms of non-linear gameplay.

So... how will it be?

That's the exciting thing. No one knows. I'm hoping it feels like the 3D version of ALBW. That's my dream. In other words, the areas in SS, but on a grander scale, and all seamlessly connected. No hub worlds. No black screens. The screenshots seem to suggest this.

No he isn't. I take it as, it won't play like modern mainstream openword games. It won't feel like GTA or Skyrim. It's already confirmed to be open world. Its a large world that is seamless. It was confirmed with the first screenshot. You can walk to those areas with no load times. That's an open world.

I can only think it will be like OoT as I'm just playing it... with a great field to explore with not much to do, then places connected to it that you have to enter and explore better, like towns and dungeons.

I think it'll be more like Wind Waker. OoT is segmented, which is why I don't feel it's an accurate comparison. I feel like this Hyrule Field will be more like WW's Great Sea than OoT's Hyrule Feild. I actually don't like that idea honestly, because that's not the dense experience I'm looking for, but I felt there was much more to do in WW's sea than OoT's (or TP's) fields.

I just want the overworld to be seamless and I want it to be populated by interesting enemies. I like SS because Moblins, Bokoblins, and others are in the overworld as well as in the dungeons like in the 2D games. WW was cool because there were miniboss fights (The Octorok/Kraken things) in the actual overworld, which was fucking dope. WW was also cool because there were lookouts, hideouts, submarines, islands, burried treasure, Fishmen charts, and so much more to find in the overworld. That's why I don't get when people hate sailing the Great Sea in WW. It's perfectly Zelda in my mind. Even when I replayed it for the 6th time recently and sword I'd just play the story bits, I couldn't help but take pit stops everywhere to do all of that. That doesn't happen in 3D Zelda games. Honestly, that doesn't really happen in open world games I've played. Especially filling your map. That's what I think Aonuma means.

The Wii U's Gamepad will display a map and provide hints of where to go.

We can achieve this thanks to the hardware features of Wii U, but to truly get a deep understanding of the game world, we also need a real map that depicts the world as it is. The GamePad is very effective for displaying this, and thus also [for] providing players with a constant hint on where to head to. I think we can safely say that the innovations in this new game are only possible thanks to the Wii U hardware.

Nice use of the gamepad, but I don't wanna any hints!

Honestly, "hints" probably just means a beacon to show where the dungeon is, like with every zelda game since ALttP. The bigger thing to take from this is how this may be more evidence against Wiimote motion controls.
