@Spemanig thanks for clarifying that... I've genuinely been half expecting them to turn around and show a great looking Zelda, then for the camera to pan out and it to be isometric; presumably whilst aonuma high fives sakurai and say, 'now THAT'S how you troll a fanbase'

Here's the quote:

"Eiji Aonuma: I think the top-down view made the ability to enter the wall really interesting. Also, in this game, I feel we’ve found a new direction in regards to the potential use of the good old top-down view for Zelda. It’s the kind of point we will take in good consideration when thinking about the next Zelda game."

This was in an interview talking about A Link Between Worlds (the game he's referring to here), and he never implied that "the next Zelda game" meant the next console Zelda game. In the context of this interview, he's very clearly talking about a new direction for top down Zelda's in general as opposed to hinting that the immediate next game may be played from this view. He's taking the new direction into consideration for the next top down Zelda.

Bolded: Was he talking about ALBW since he said "in this game"?

Yep.

Yes, it was an interview he did with the ONM for ALBW.

It is quite a vague sentence though, 'next Zelda game', does technically mean Hyrule Warriors, or Zelda U. But if he has since clarified that he mean the next top down then I am more than happy to accept your word on it.

Could have been something as simple as poorly translating a single word!

'next Zelda game', could also mean the one AFTER Zelda U of course. ie the next one they start work on, rather than the next one they release!

Good thread. The more Zelda threads we have, the better.

Zelda has always, until recently, aimed to appeal to a wide audience. This isn't something new. ALttP, OoT, MM, and WW were rated E for a reason.

As long as its a 3d zelda that isn't top down, I will be happy

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Can't wait to see this unfold.

Nintendo has to realize that they have to show / tease something for Zelda at this event. Otherwise hell-fire and brimstone upon thee!!

Hey, Amazon Japan has a Zelda title listed 8/14/2014 at number one beating out Mario Kart 8 that's in second. I don't think it's Hyrule Warriors but then again it could be.
