Forums - General Discussion - Report: Sony Paid $400 million for Warner Bros' Blu-Ray move

Its not like it matters anymore. The format war is over, and both sides used some dirty tricks. HD-DVD forum's payout to Paramount for example (more corroborated than this supposed payout).

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Not at all a surprise. Anything goes in these types of Corporate wars. I think it is good Sony showed some passion.

Microsoft pays for game exclusivity. Sony is allowed to buy the format exclusivity.

Sony really had no choice. If they lost the format war, PS3 would have sank to the bottom in no time.

Wow X_X Let's see if Warner pays off. 400 mil is kinda a lot.

400 million a lot of money?

Hoo hoo hoo!

You're so naive!

Yeah, I make more in a week....LOL

Oh look what I can do..!!!!

Why would Sony pay it >_>? They aren't the largest contributer to the BDA -_-;

Yeah 400 million, that's only about half of what Sony lost in the second (or was it the first?) quarter report after the PS3 launched and caused everyone to shit their pants, lol.

No, Sony is invincible and made of Money they can take any loss, oh wait, did I say Sony, sorry, I meant Microsoft.

Seriously though, I am puzzled why Sony paid it when they aren't the largest contridubtor to Blu-Ray as well. All I can figure was that it was a desperate gesture to support their gaming division and hope that Blu-Ray would recoup their losses already taken in investing in it with the PS3.

Hey GGE, want to grab a pizza with me sometime? I hear California Pizza kitchen has this great chicken one.

HAHAHAHA

400 mil?

HAHAHAHAHA

that ends my comment.

the Wii is an epidemic.

GGE with her usual slant against Sony, nothing new there...

Even if they did pay this amount of money the move won the war so thats the desired effect! I do doubt that this was the case as you can't just go throwing that much cash around without anyone reporting it!
