Forums - Microsoft - Ryse Son Of Rome still the best looking console game?

both killzone and infamous look better than ryse, the are also technically better looking that run higher res and frame rate

I guess if someone likes the art of ryse that's fine it's very colourful and it's the type of game where the char is central so I'd expect char models to be top notch, I predict next gen god of war to trash ryse char models, then well stop hearing about ryse char models

lol I read this on n4g all the time, it's as if they believe ps4 can never beat ryse graphics that's how stupid people are!!!

Infamous SS certainly plays better - it really doesn't look better. Then again, Sucker Punch didn't set out to make a visual showpiece, whereas thats how Ryse was intended.

Probably true but it still looks better than Ryse.

Sure.

If you say so

Those saying Ryse "never was" are being a little unfair to it i think. You can't really proclaim either Ryse or Killzone as the definitive best looking launch title, GG and Crytek went down pretty different paths for what they wanted to prioritize.

Ryse for example had considerably better characters models and animations (perhaps excluding Maya's facial animations), a more advanced AA method (fuck FXAA, y u do dat guerrilla :c) and more complex geometry thanks to it's more linear nature.

Killzone on the other hand was running at a fair higher performance level than Ryse (1080p/30 - 40fps, so on average about 75% - 80% higher than Ryse's 900p/26 - 32fps), was often rendering more open areas (such as the forest level), and often utilized some seriously stunning textures.

Overall Killzone was certainly the more resource intensive of the two, but Ryse made better use of what it was given. With all of that in mind i don't think you can really say one is more of an achievement than the other, outside of general aesthetics preference.

inFamous beats the crap out of both though

Zekkyou I always find myself agreeing with your posts! You keep me sane around here bro

@Dr Henry-- who knows as you said ,, it can be in my lucky or bad luck for DF. In saying that DF are not always correct. They do get their analysis wrong lol. For example me and my brother playing KZ have noticed slowdown in terms of frame rate drops,, yet DF never mentions that. It was rare but it did happen. Have you played the game yourself? I have seen their analysis and they only focussed on one or two small sections of the game.

I have both Ryse and I:SS and they both look extremely good for console games. I'd still pick Ryse over I:SS though.

They have money and reputation on the line. DF does multiple tests on multiple machines, and primarily does PC tests anyway. Furthermore, unless you have objective tools like pixel and frame counters like DF does you're reliance on eyesight alone is not going to cut it unfortunately.

Thats why DF uploads videos to Youtube.

Youtube compresses and further messes up high quality streams most of the time, hence the overlay on the game video shows what framerate the game is running at, and they can tell the output resolution even on consoles.

DF doesn't nitpick on slowdowns that might appear, they focus on general trends.

DF like NPD is not infalliable, but they are the best objective information we have.

Not with that frame rate, no. I'd say that it never was the best looking game due to it's performance. It also doesn't have any real art style since they were trying to go for a more realism route so it looks really quiet boring to me personally. On that front, something like MK8 looks much better just because it's vibrant with an actual art style and a lot of details at 60FPS, hence making that game much better looking to me. I'm not saying MK8 is "technically" superior mind you, I'm just saying MK8 is a better looking console game, to me.

Nope second son takes that prize and it is an open world game to boot

So I just went back to Ryse since I had been playing a lot of Second Son and honestly Ryse does look better. It has FAR superior texture work and more complex geometry.

That being said Second Son has better lighting and its open world. Its kinda hard to compare the two honestly but in terms of higher fidelity assets Ryse beats Second Son
