Forums - Microsoft - People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3 so are less inclined to upgrade - one of Yusuf Mehdi's opinions on sales gap

Titanfall and Halo are the only games that interested me on MS's side. Though i'm surprised at how well TF plays on the 360.

I'm just telling the truth here and by the way I like JRPG's my avatar is from a very underrated JRPG.

Then just answer truthfully, do you consider Final Fantasy, Bravely Default, Kingdom Hearts, the Tales games, and Dark Souls to be niche?

Those are some of the biggest titles on the market right now.

Biggest titles really, I guess you must be looking at different sales charts then me.

By "right now" I'm including hype and overall fanbase, not just purely sales.

Also, Dark Souls II and Final Fantasy X/X-2 are doing amazingly well in sales.

Most people that are obsessed with JRPG's are in denial that the genere peaked both in sales and popularity with FFVII in 1997.

Once again, just because it's not the most popular genre doen not make it niche.

Unless Bravely Default, Persona, Ni no Kuni, the Tales games, the Kingdom Hearts games, the Dark Souls games, etc are all "niche"

-_-

Maybe you dont understand what niche means?  It means it targets a specific kind of person or group.  Here in the states, jrpg has become a niche genre outside of maybe the final fantasy series (although that series is in some serious decline).  Sure those titles you will have some success here, but that doesnt mean they are mainstream.  There is a much smaller audience for a jrpg then a game like titanfall.  That is why we are calling them niche.  It is more about targeted audience size, not saying anything bad about the quality of the games.

I like most jrpg's myself, but I recognize that it has become a niche genre everywhere outside of japan.

Yusuf Mehdi says, "They're in 40+ markets, we're in 13,"

That's why Xbox One is trailing PS4 in its biggest market, right?

Its also not really something to boast about, why was there global roll out strategy so poor in comparison. NO new countries after 6 months, very weak.

Neither one of those is currently in the weekly top 20 so no they are not doing amazingly in sales.  Also I'm begin generous here to really be doing amazingly a game has to be in the top ten for more then a couple of weeks.

Especially when they've had hundreds of thousands of units just sitting on shelves, for many of those months.

EVERY genre is targeted to a certain kind of group. FPS are for hardcore online gamers, JRPGs/RPGs are for single-player gamers, etc. Just because the target group for JRPGs is smaller dosen't mean its niche. A niche game is a game like Hatsume Miku Project Diva: targeted to a very small portion of people from a specific genre. Call of Duty eclipses the Last of Us in userbase. Does that make the Last of Us niche? Games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dark Souls do amazing in sales and have a huge group of fans, so by your definition, they aren't niche right?

The 360 has been a dry well for ~3 years while the PS3 keeps pumping out plenty of games. That's all i have to say to this "mister".

Sure I guess you never heard of XBLA games.
