Most people that are obsessed with JRPG's are in denial that the genere peaked both in sales and popularity with FFVII in 1997.

Once again, just because it's not the most popular genre doen not make it niche.

Unless Bravely Default, Persona, Ni no Kuni, the Tales games, the Kingdom Hearts games, the Dark Souls games, etc are all "niche"

-_-

Maybe you dont understand what niche means?  It means it targets a specific kind of person or group.  Here in the states, jrpg has become a niche genre outside of maybe the final fantasy series (although that series is in some serious decline).  Sure those titles you will have some success here, but that doesnt mean they are mainstream.  There is a much smaller audience for a jrpg then a game like titanfall.  That is why we are calling them niche.  It is more about targeted audience size, not saying anything bad about the quality of the games.

I like most jrpg's myself, but I recognize that it has become a niche genre everywhere outside of japan.

EVERY genre is targeted to a certain kind of group. FPS are for hardcore online gamers, JRPGs/RPGs are for single-player gamers, etc. Just because the target group for JRPGs is smaller dosen't mean its niche. A niche game is a game like Hatsume Miku Project Diva: targeted to a very small portion of people from a specific genre. Call of Duty eclipses the Last of Us in userbase. Does that make the Last of Us niche? Games like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dark Souls do amazing in sales and have a huge group of fans, so by your definition, they aren't niche right?
