PS4 and X1 both have paid online, so there's a major factor that makes me not want to get both.

7the gen, I'd say definitely!! 8th gen, I'm not so sure, yet.

a) Are you well off and have money to throw around?

b) Have enough space for 3 different consoles and 2 handhelds or even more if you still wanna play the last gen consoles?

c) Don't care much about trophies and achievements? Because if you want to beat a friend who has more trophies, playing xb1/360 games will take some of your time from trophy collection (silly? sure, but it matters to some people_

d) Are your game interests so specific that from all the available rpgs, you just have to play Fable 2 or Demon's Souls?

Then go ahead and by them all.

Time is definitely not a strong point in my opinion. because you can play ps3 games 24/7, or play wiips360 games twice a week.

If you can afford it yes. I already own a Vita, 3DS and PS4, the Wii U will come in two weeks with the Mario Kart bundle, and the X1 will likely follow next year. Then I'll become the ultimate Multiplatform God.

Imo, unless you are a Wii U owner and don't have access to 90% of 3rd party content there is little reason to even own 2 home consoles. I'm gaming relatively a lot (although spend more time per game on average due to trophy hunting) and still am not even remotely close to keeping up with all the games coming out and stuck with a big backlog.

My plan is sticking to PS4 only with Vita sometime down the road, probably when OLED will be phased out completely. Sure I'll miss some exclusives on Xbone that won't release on PC but currently no exclusive interests me, pretty much at all so it's not a problem. Wii U is out of question.

It really depends on the individual. For a long time I've championed multi-console ownership, but lately I've discovered that my experiences have become very wide, but shallow. Whereas if I was a single console owner I could really explore and savor each game to its fullest, instead of rushing on to the next.

In any event, I think 2 systems is a must. The best bet, I've found, is Nintendo and PC. With PC you get most of the high-profile third-party games, plus PC exclusives, and with WiiU/3DS you get Nintendo's first and second party software.

I probably won't follow my own advice -- I'm only an X1 away from owing every 8th gen system -- but PC and Nintendo strikes me as the most efficient and cost-effective way to play the majority of great games.

If you have money and interest in all three consoles, then sure!

Not if you have a career, mortgage, and a family to support.

Maybe Nintendo for the kids and Xbox or PS for yourself, but all 3? Madness. Madness only reserved for teenagers with disposable income who have those precious years before adulthood responsibility kicks in.

If you are filthy rich, then yes. If you are dirt poor, then no.
