Forums - Microsoft - Disgusted with the loss of Innovation (Kinect)? (/rant)

I'm sorry, but "innovation"? People want a controller in their hands. A physical controller they can feel and interact with. Motions controls themselves were a sometimes neat and interesting fad....but they were fad. I would have never wanted them to take the place of regular controls, and I was super glad when Nintendo went the GamePad (see: regular controler+) direction, instead of sticking with the Wiimote concept as the main controller. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Wii U also still can use the Wiimote. It's nice to controller options, and Wii U has several. But having a controller with BUTTONS, and no silly waving around, as the main controller = far preferable.

Kinect took that concept to a whole other level though, with hands-free, and I don't mean that in a good way. It had a reputation has being largely inaccurate, and most of the games that were exclusive with it, weren't considered to be terribly good. It was a waste on Microsoft's part, honestly, especially trying to force it on people by bundling it in with Xbone. So this move isn't surprising at all.

You bring up voice commands in Skyrim which can be done via microphone for either platform at this point. Most gamers are going to need more of a reason to have that expensive camera there. There are fun games for kinect but even I have been waiting for a Kinect @$20 for the 360 so I can try the few games that interest me. It sure as hell isnt worth $100+ for most.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

SSOOOOOOO not true at all..... mouse were laughed at when they first came around, and touch took years to be mainstream and accepted.... but like voice control I agree with you it still has to grow into something more natural and accurate to use effcicently

Did i say these techs were an instant success? Touchscreens were around for decades, but the first time it really clicked with customers afaik was with the iPhone.

teh irony.

this tells me that consumers arent as gullible as these companies want to believe. voice commands? please that could be done with a mic. MS knows it and everyone does too. still waiting for a list of these Kinect games that were in development im guessing one or two MAX

I can't believe people actually thought the kinect was going to be supported. The only way it would've gotten major support is if the PS4 also bundled a camera. Even then, I doubt we would've seen anything innovative because kinect just isn't that interesting when its tethered to a console. The only good innovative applications I have seen is stuff you can't do on a console.

The camera was bundled and even exclusive games barely used it. Third party publishers aren't interested, most gamers aren't interested. The public has made it clear that they are not interested. Look at Nintendo, they stuck to their guns and kept the gamepad bundled and still no one has managed to figure out a truly compelling application for it. Bundling does not guarantee innovation.

We ALL are losing out on the development of fun new games to play, and fun new ways of playing AND things nobody has thought of yet.

That is where I stopped reading your rant.

Kinect has been successful and supported with Xbox for four years now. In four years they've yet to introduce a new game or enhanced an existing genre that made Kinect a awesome feature for gaming. I said it the day Kinect was shown and I'll say it again. Kinect is not a good gaming device. Unlike wiimote/nunchuk combination, Kinect sucks with the nearly all genres and simply is not a good gaming controller.

It has far superior possibilities with expanding voice and motion control for computing. Not gaming. It if were not for the dance craze, which was bigger with wiimote on wii than kinect, it would never have taken off in the first place and thus not been part of Xbone.

Except fo dance games, Kinect is definalty best for the dance genre.

Did you read my full post? I recognized that the dance craze was its niche, even if I think its better on Wii and the sales of Wii versions seem to support that. However, that craze is largely gone or waning. In four years nothing has come out of Kinect. Its not a good gaming control option.

DDR is the definitive best for the dance genre.
