Forums - Microsoft - Disgusted with the loss of Innovation (Kinect)? (/rant)

Kinect is great for navigation but piss poor for gaming. There has yet to be a game to really make people believers.

Also, love the dramatic take on this smart and popular move by MS. It just made the Xbox One more competitive at the expense of, and I quote, "innovation."

Do you have a source for that "80% of Xbox One owners use their Kinect 2.0 DAILY" statistic, because frankly it sounds like utter crap :p

I doubt 80% of console owners even turn their console on daily, let alone use a periferal

Yea, from one of Microsoft tweets. Look it up.

Even people that didn't like the idea, once they had it, found it really useful.

Sorry if you don't want to belive it, but a fact is a fact.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Did you just compare Dreamcast to Xbox and Microsoft to Sega? BLASPHEMOUS! SACRILEGIOUS!!!! Take that back!

I get what you're saying behind the idea of Kinect but in execution Kinect didn't really work out too well. MS and other devs didn't seem to keen on investing too much money into games for it either, and some Kinect only games like D4 iirc also brought the option to use a controller.

For apps too I never had a moment where I felt like I needed Kinect to improve my experience, it was always just kind of there and I felt like there wasn't any serious push from MS to improve Kinect. So as a whole I'm not too sad to see it go.

You are intitled to your opion, but I think you are completly wrong.

There are many good Kinect games out there that many people like and play.  It is still in the top 30 of US games as of recent VGChartz postings.

The issue is that there are no good Kinect games out there apart from the casual ones like the Dance Central nonsense and etc... We can talk about potential till the cows come home but the 360 had a chance with Kinect and they blew it and the X1 had a chance and they blew that too. Its fun for the first time and it gets boring easily... I have not met a person with an x1 that havn't said they would rather save the $100 than have the Kinect

The technology is great but there is no reason to justify the $100 for it and also, there is Kinect for Windows you know...

And heck, if people want Kinect that badly, its not going anywhere, its just not being shoved down our throats with the extra $100 price tag... Innovation is great but it only works if the consumer likes it and having to pay extra for a weaker console that has the potential to have a great Kinect game sometime in the next 5 years isn't exactly what I call exciting

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Was Kinect really innovative?

You can't force people into a specific way of gaming. Freedom is important and doing well in an environment where people actually want your product, that's innovation. If you have to force people to buy your add-on, then it's terrible and not innovative.

That said I'm looking forward to the games we'll see on XB1 in the future.

P.S. Ryse was suppose to only use Kinect controls and look at how crappy it turned out. Meanwhile Smash Bros for Wii plays better with traditional gamecube controllers.

The Xbox One is an entertainment device. Using a controller for most people is more entertaining than using Kinect. Innovation is a good thing but if people don't find Kinect entertaining then that's that. Come up with a new idea and see how the public responds to it.

They didn't have, but one game yet!  How could people even know what it can do without any games.

They blew it with not having any great Kinect games at launch.  Even now they only have one!

Then they should have made some Kinect games. Give people a reason that this device is of value. Kinect was just a worthless packaged in camera for the XOne. Sure it might be cool to use the voice commands but how many owners actually use that? And for the few that do like that feature, well good for them because they have it. No one is really hurting from making a Kinectless bundle.

It's not my job to provide a source for someone else's statement ^^

Even if said tweet is real, it's worthless without proof. If it contained a link to the data of a fair and relatively large scale survey that backs the statement up, then i'd be happy to accept it as a fact. If you can't provide that however, the only reasonable assumption i can make is that it's false.

I'm one of those funny types of people that like proof before believing a statement that itself doesn't seem plausible :P

You know they arent getting rid of kinect eright? They just arent forcing people that dont want it to buy it... I dont see what the problem is...
