Forums - Gaming - Why do you prefer your favorite company?

As i look around the gaming landscape, i see fans of all shapes and sizes. Some are mods, some are fanboys, fangirls, the calm and collected ones, and everything else in between.

Now regardless of who you prefer, the Chad Daddy has a question for you..

What game does your favorite company have to thank for winning over your loyalty? What is the game( or games) that sculpted you into being who you are today? I'm not talking about fanboyism, i'm just talking about the games that made you prefer them.

Also, please try to avoid downplaying differing games or a company you dont prefer as much as your favorite. I want to see the reason why you LIKE your favorite company, not the reason why you DISLIKE any of the others.

Out of the big 3 i actually have 2. Sony and Nintendo.

On the Sony side

1.) Spyro The Dragon - Spyro was MY GAME! This was THE Sony series that would've made me get a PlayStation( even though i already had one by the time i played Spyro).

2.) Ape Escape  - this is a VERY CLOSE 2nd to Spyro. So close that i actually have to sit down and think about which game i liked more out of the 2 EVERYTIME.

3.) Parappa The Rapper - Loved the hell out of this game! When playing, i could remember always wanting to walk around in the Parappa world.

^^ isn't this funny.. They don't even make these games anymore. THE games that helped sculpt Sony into being my #1 preffered company aren't even being made anymore.. typical luck that i have..

there were plenty other Sony games that i loved like Crash Team Racing, Legend Of Dragoon, Legend Of Legaia, Medievil, etc

On the Nintendo side

1.) Paper Mario - I pretty much like all of the Mario games but Paper Mario is the 1st game i get on a Nintendo console. Do you want to know the #1 reason why i will and HAVE to get a Wii U? That's right, you said it. It's because Paper Mario will more than likely be made on it. Regardless of me liking Nintendo's franchises, Paper Mario is THE main reason above all why each Nintendo system MUST be purchased

2.) Yoshi's Island - This was probably my favorite Nintendo game on the Snes. I believe that Super Mario world is probably the best platformer ever created BUT i do favor Yoshi's Island over it.

3.) Donky Kong 64 - This game was probably my favorite Nintendo game on the N64 behind Paper Mario

So what games sculpted you into prefering the company that you like today? I look forward to reading your responses

Nintendo cause Iwata touched me
Sony cause Kaz touched me

But seriously, I like Nintendo's First party and Controllers and I like Sony's Third party and hardware

I grew up on Nintendo games and never got bored. but the most interesting thing is that their console and games are made for each other and you can feel it.

I don't have a favorite company and I don't understand people that do.

My favorite games of all time include Gears of War, Zelda, Mario, The Last of Us, and Forza.

Each generation I weigh up the pros and cons of the consoles and choose which one I believe is the best value for money.

My favorite consoles of the last 3 generations has been the Gamecube, the 360, and now the PS4.

I'll never understand people buying inferior products due to some brand loyalty. It defies logic to me.

Metroid Prime
Zelda
Pikmin
Punch Out
Donkey Kong
Super Smash Bros
Mario Kart

You throw in X (Monolith Soft) and that's one hell of a first party lineup.

Super Mario Bros. 3, Diddy Kong Racing, and Pokemon Emerald. My holy trinity.

Capcom of course. They've always treated their franchises with care and respect. They put consumers first and their profit margins second. They're one of the few companies that ships full games without chopping half of it out to repackage as paid DLC. Capcom just cares.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I have no favourite company, if I ever find myself thinking that way I will be giving myself a major reality check. Companies exist purely to extract money from you, it is nice when they do it by providing something you like or want but I would never be stupid enough to believe they are anything but selfish entities that are only their for one reason, MONEY.

Favourite games though, Age of Empires Series, Mario and Gears of war

I don't have a favorite company i.e. Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft.

It's kind of funny but the reason I first loved Nintendo was because of third party games. With the notable exception of Zelda and a few lesser titles, I was never a big fan of Nintendo games. I've owned at least three Mario games, for example, and never finished any of them.

Likewise, that's how it started with Sony. I became a big fan of the PS1, my favorite all-time console, because it was a haven for RPGs. I didn't care for the Sony mascot games any more than I did the Nintendo mascot games.

The first real change in that was probably Gran Turismo. That game, that series, blew my mind. After that was Ico, another game that changed my perception of what games could become. These were the kernels of what I could come to associate with World Wide Studios.

Really, that's something I want to make clear: during the PS3 era, I considered myself a WWS fan much more than a Sony fan. Sony itself deserved a ton of criticism during that time but WWS, for me, was their redemption. Because of the diversity and creativity they've exhibited over the years, I consider them the best game development organization in the world. I think Microsoft is smart to copy their approach--and, yes, that's a compliment.

Now, with the PS4, I probably consider myself more a Sony fan than I did previously, mostly because guys like Yoshida and Cerny seem to be at the helm of the Playstation division. They've improved tremendously in a lot of areas and I think they deserve a ton of credit for that.

At least until they fuck up again because of hubris, which history tells us is likely to happen to any gaming hardware company that gets too happy with itself.
