Remember when people were saying.

"This generation is nothing but shinier graphics for PS4!"

Well that now applies to Xone.

Project Morpheus is our only hope of having ANY innovation this gen, and the chance of that succeeding is low I must say.

The kinect sku aint going away. This is for those that don't want to embrace change. Which, by the way, are many.

The 3rd party resolution difference should disappear (or at the very least decrease) over time. That has mostly been caused by developers struggling with the esram rather than the actual power difference of the two.

Like with the PS3 and 360, developers have no incentive to push their games further than what the weaker can produce. They don't gain anything from proving better assets to one simply because it's stronger. PC ports may be an exception of occasion, but i imagine most developers will choose better stability over increased assets (such as TR). In that sense you could say the X1 is the PS4's bottle neck

As with the PS3, it's their 1st party that will utilize that extra strength the most over the years. For now i don't expect we will see any huge difference (neither are close to being maxed out), but as the years go by the difference will become more prominent. More so than with the PS3 that's for sure.

Personally i'm looking forward to seeing what developers like ND and SSM can do with the GPGPU capabilities in a few years :D That stuff is really cool.

I agree can't wait to see what ND can do in a few years on PS4.

So its a better deal now since Titanfall is so awesome!

Consoles still less powerful, but I am enjoy the Xbox One more for now. That should change when Sonys first party gets better. Kudos to MS for following Sony. Its much better for gamers.

Yes Stage....the dreaded "lack of support in the later years" curse. Hopefully this is a sign of change that MS will prepare for the future as well. Glad to hear that you recognize their efforts in the short term is at least working.

Well trailing Sony will be sure to bring that out of Microsoft. When they are on top they get complacent and they don't make enough to be that complacent. They will pay random companies for random games out the wazoo! This is good for us!

I'd have to imagine the kinect sku will be low selling compared to the $399 sku, like, very low selling. A lot of people who bought a X1 didn't buy it for kinect 2.0 and MOST consumers, well the VAST majority will go with the cheaper sku.

Except 360 hardware, software, and LIVE revenue (Gold/marketplace) pad those losses. PS2 in 2007 was sold at what....$99 with no online marketplace or subscription service to help Sony. 360 is still sold at $199 and $299.

Nice try, but you are exaggerating. The irony is heavy, considering Sonys Q4 statement is due tomorrow and it don't look pretty.

And is it PS4's fault? I never said Sony was in a good situation but think Xbox one is in a better situation than playstation 4 like @azerth implied is too much fanboyism even for a guy who uses a halo avatar like you.

BTW by your logic whatever profit X360 had was to paid OG xbox losses. :P

Don't care if it is PS4's fault.....by principle, any Sony fan cannot talk about Xbox losses. Just drips of irony lol. Delecious irony.

We talking about OG Xbox now? PS3 burned though all PS2 profits....that isn't what we are talking about. 360 profit since 2008-2013 isn't changing. What I am saying is that since the X1 launch, the Xbox division is still profiting because 360 and X1 combined are profitable.

Saying X360 + Xone are profitable is like saying 3DS+ WiiU are profitable,it's true but thanks to one console only.

BTW why people can't talk about Xone losses? this was a very recurring topic during the 7° gen(about PS3)! Now that MS is burning money with free titanfall,kinect-less bundle and price cut do you really think Xbox 360 can handle the division much longer?

NPD will be out tomorrow and will show the true reasons of this announcement. :P

I'm pretty sure there was a thread here a couple months ago talking about how MS would never remove the Kinect, but I can't find it (this sites' search function is freaking useless...), does someone know what I'm talking about and can maybe give me a link?

I think a bit of lighthearted teasing is in order.

MS ain't new to marketing incentives. You can guarantee Kinect Sports Rivals being a long-term pack-in this holiday and going forward. Possibly a second game, one that gamers would actually want to play, be included as well. Live Gold 3 month trial, while keeping the $399 sku without any bundled games. Many possibilities to up the value to even the odds.

You could get a Xbox One, Titanfall, and Forza 5 for $450 for awhile and that included a Kinect and it still didn't push that many more consoles, so it'll be interesting to see how much more this does. It would have been a smart move dropping Kinect but not this long after the systems release. Dropping the Kinect now is just a really bad PR move imo. Another thing that they lost by making a Kinectless version of the Xbox One is that now that every console doesn't have one, devs won't bother making Kinect exclusive software because the market will be split with Kinect owners and non Kinect owners..

Lack of support in later years of the 360 was probably more due to the change in leadership.  They stopped focusing on games when don mattrick took ever.  With spencer, I dont see games drying up like they did for the 360...
