Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart 8 pushes Wii U to the limit?

I guess love is blind when it comes to Nintendo love.

Mario kart games have never being technically demanding, well, maybe except the first on SNES which was a real stunner with the never seen before mode 7.

MK64 was VERY impressive, graphcially and technically, for it's time. The 3D course designs were top of the line for 1997, and the battle arenas were even more amazing. That, combined with the cool pre-rendered sprites, and the fact that it was a huge leap over the SNES, made it very impressive. Regardless, again, Nintendo said that Mario 64 was technically demanding of the N64, using up something like 80%+ of it's power. For a launch title. And to be fair, few 3D games ever really did what M64 did during that gen. But then look what they accomplished with Star Fox 64, with Goldeneye, with Ocarina of Time, with Banjo-Kazooie, etc. Or even third party titles like Turok 2 or Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

Point being, MK8 DOES look impressive (by any standards), but Wii U will, guaranteed, have far more impressive games in the future, both graphically and technically.

IP bans only work with static IP's.   Thanks to the limitations of IPv4, classless addressing and NAT/PAT, the majority of the world uses dynamic IP's.   Meaning the IP address you have today may not be the same IP address tomorrow and some dude in another state may have your old IP address....and would be banned for no reason.

Can you not ban entire I.P ranges?
Because even dynamically allocated I.P addresses are limited in "range" via the ISP.

Indeed you can ban entire ranges but individuals are never provided a dedicated block range of IP addresses that are not shared with countless others.

Exclusive IPs and ranges of IPs are incredibly rare if not entirely unhead of now.  Businesses, of course, can receive them but not general customers.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

I'm not sure if someone addressed this in the last 20+ pages but...

I think people are lacking a little perspective on WHAT might be pushing the Wii U to its limits. Think about the following scenario:

- 4-player splitscreen is rendering FOUR 540p viewpoints, albeit at reduced graphical levels
- There are still 8 AI racers in 4-player mode (and let's not talk about how simple their AI is, because it's simple in racing sims like GT6 as well), but there are also weapons to track
- This 4-player splitscreen is also mirrored on the Gamepad, so a 480p copy is being created and streamed as well

When you think about the other racing sims that people love to say look so much better than Mario Kart, and argue that Mario Kart 8 isn't graphically pushing the limits, they may be right on a single display level. If you think about the above scenario, it's actually quite obvious that has got to be a serious strain on the system, as I HIGHLY doubt you'll EVER see a 4-player splitscreen sim racer anytime soon...

Well said! I was waiting for this type answer to appear at somepoint and I agree with you fully.

While I'm happy you agree, why were you waiting for someone else to say it when you could have been the pioneer!?

Pong can be 1080p 60fps. That just shows a complete lack of knowing how graphics works.

But Gran Tourismo 6 can't. Lol. (BTW, you were discussing it's graphical shortcomings I was discussing it's performance supremacy.)

The fuck does that have to do with anything?

In short, MK8 looks crap compared to modern games.

And performs way better. (That was my point)

Yeah..... Performance over Quality

Lol, if you consider graphics quality. I consider performance to give a game more quality to me than having the best looking graphics but plays like crap.

Your point is based on an opinion, Mario Kart 8 performing better than last gen games is a fact.

And pong performs way better than MK. Your point is stupid.

Your point is graphics, lol.

Oh and pong DESTROYS GT4 in performance.

What is your point? Games that are graphically bad perform well due to a lack of graphics? K. So what?

Just kind of the other side of the coin of a games that are "graphically superior" play like absolute garbage. I think both of our points are understood.

Trim the quote trees and keep it respectful.

Still number one on Amazon Japan, hot damn!

If games like Mario Kart 8 and Art of Balance look this great in the Wii U's second year, I can't wait to see what the prettiest third year titles look like, as they get more familiar with the hardware and learn how to squeeze the most out of it.

Art of Balance isn't really in the same league as the AAA games though. It certainly looks nice but it's a very very simple game that has very little computation needed and has only a few objects to render. What pushes systems to the limits is how they manage when it comes to huge open games with many moving parts.
