Also, no, no one game can overturn the system's fortunes. A few games and lots of advertising and a price cut can, though.
Halo didnt change Xbox's fortunes, it was a launch title meaning there was nothing to change.
As for Goldeneye, games like Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Stadium were all big system sellers as well, u cant give Goldeneye full credit for selling N64s.
Monster Hunter alone did not cause 3DS sales to surge, it was a combination of a drastic price cut+Super Mario 3D World+Mario Kart 7+Monster Hunter 3G and a steady stream of quality games from that point forward.

Goldeneye came out a mere 5 months after the N64 in most places, hardly enough time to make a console "in need of saving"

Excepy this time we know of the strength the ip has. It sold insanely on the wii, but NSMB on the wii sold even more. On the wii U. NSMB on wii u didnt do it so why should mariokart?

Shenmue may have moved the fewest xboxes out of all those games, except maybe grabbed by ghoulies and panzer dragoon orta.
And to add to the list of games, otogi and morrowind, god damned morrowind.
