Forums - Nintendo - One game cannot change the Wii U's fortunes around- So we have heard multiple times over on Vgchartz, but what about----?

Normally I would agree with most of the spurgs comments. But this particular idea that 1 game is what makes the difference is just not true. If so, I haven't played a game that does this for me.

I agree that there have been many influential games for each system. And the cumulative effect of those games are what matters.

It is near the end of the end....

But the xbox sold like crap.

One game is never enough.

If Halo was the only game worth playing, why does Xbox have the highest Tie Ratio of all consoles? There were plenty of awesome games to own.

this was going to be my contribution. And the N64 only sold slightly better with arguably the best games in existence

Elementary, jmurph.

Its easy to have a high attach rate when the majority of your marketshare is in US and you don't have that many customers.

Granted, the Xbox was the most succesful console of all time...in my heart...after 64...after PS2...

No. Being rude will.

Here is your logic. What were the top two games? How far away were the other games? How many of these games were multiplates, how many appealed to mass market consumers?

Peh!

Pos Game Year Genre Publisher North America Europe Japan Rest of World Global

6 of the top 8 sold over 2 million without being halo,  only 1 of those six is first party.

how many third party games have sold over 2m on the wiiu?

youre hurting your own argument.

Of course the right game could have a huge impact, but why look any further than Wii Sports?

xbox sales were low anyway so halo had little overall impact to that, the system had a bunch of really great games that many people preffered more than halo, note how the top 8 you pasted, take away halo and none are fps, something xbox gets flack for being.

fact of the matter is the xbox had great games beyond halo and that selection is what helped it get to where it got, same for n64 and same for 3ds and no length of post by you will change that.

I'd actually wager a guess that it's because there were fewer casual owners, which as a console gets more and more popular you'll probably have a higher percentage of. Maybe. The GCN also interestingly has the highest tie ratio of any Nintendo console. Both those low selling consoles are in a similar bucket...

Anyways I think this whole debate is tired. It depends on what "save the system" means. If it means pushing 2 million more hardware units in the next 18 months than would have sold otherwise, that would be a 150% smashing success for the game in boosting console sales, but without anything else to pick the early momentum from it WiiU would drop from there and still be tracking below GCN.

Basically, it needs more games and it's probably getting more games. We'll find out in a month.
