They could choose 720p to hold 60fps for example... in my personal view they did the right because with the screen splited in 4 parts the resolution helps more than the framerate.

The console renders 4x 540p screens.

I would be really surprised if it wasn't. It's not exactly a graphical powerhouse.

Not saying it looks bad at all, the colorful and cartoony artstyle is quite pretty.
