Forums - Sony - DualShock 4 Battery Life Increase By Dimming The Light... But By How Much?

Didn't expect much, and perhaps it's mostly the screen glare that is the reason for the options rather than battery saving. While 12% longer battery life is more than might have been expected for simply dimming the LED it's not long enough to give a noticeable benefit.

Mostly the latter. It does change color depending on the player so you can remember which controller is yours if you set it down, and I think it functions with Move somehow, but nothing too crucial I don't think. I mainly just like the way it looks lol.

Edit: When you're plaing Infamous it also goes from white to progressively more blue or more red depending on whether you act good or evil. Again, useless, but still a cool touch.

Sony claims that its purpose is to work in tandem with the camera in the same way that the PS Move light did.
Thus I would argue that its function is for that and since the camera is optional, then it keeps from fracturing the user base by offering two different versions of controllers.

It is functional if you have the PS Camera... it tracks the DS4 movements.

You can blind your opponent when playing splitscreen games.

Until you pick up a torch in tomb raider and it becomes a seizure beam!

It flashes between yellow and red really fast. They thought that would be a good idea and not distracting and annoying. That thing kills eppileptics in a 50m radius!

Gross! It'll be interesting to see which developer comes up with the worst implementation of the light by the end of the gen.

Don't understand how people are complaining. The light is so INNOVATIVE! Why should something as gamer-centric as battery-life matter?

Screw the gamers, innovation is king!

Are the results consistent when put under use? You should test again under gaming conditions.
