Forums - Sony - DualShock 4 Battery Life Increase By Dimming The Light... But By How Much?

That's actually solid battery life with the lights dimmed. It's nice that they used standard micro-USB as well, so much easier to charge now.

I got so fed up of my pad battery, it goes down waaay too fast for my liking and so meant I was forever having to charge them up but it looks butt ugly sticking out of the console. So I bought an official charger. Charges both my pads simultaneously and looks so much neater :D

Actually, what drains the dual shock the most isnt play time, but turning the PS4 on. Thats when i notice the biggest loss of battery time.

With that said, ever since changing it to "dim" it seems to be able to stay at maximum charge longer. So, for me it definitly helped. Too bad i cant completely turn it off though. The thing is completely useless. I dont know why Sony let such a dumb idea go through.
If they just wanted a player light of different colors, they could just have made a tiny led for it. Not the most of one of the surfaces of the controller.

Hardly made a difference for me.

Nothing changed...

Some GAFers removed the led to see how much time it lasts and the results are over ~13 hours... the led didn't use that much battery at all.

wut

from that threads OP The battery draw isn't huge for the LED's but its still there and noticeable and from this thread the test showed a 1hr and 21 min increase when it was just dimmed

Is the light functional or estheatic?

Mostly the latter. It does change color depending on the player so you can remember which controller is yours if you set it down, and I think it functions with Move somehow, but nothing too crucial I don't think. I mainly just like the way it looks lol.

Edit: When you're plaing Infamous it also goes from white to progressively more blue or more red depending on whether you act good or evil. Again, useless, but still a cool touch.

Is it really so hard to connect the controller to a cable whenever you stop playing?
If you're playing long enough to kill a fully charged controller in one sitting it's probably doing you a fucking favor.

I personally didn't expect this to increase the battery life by much at all. 80 minutes is a nice bonus.
