Yes, to the informed gamer. Even if people know its multiplat, they are convinced that one console is THE place to play it. Hence "pretend".

I can see people that have both consoles or even neither (and want to buy a new one) to choose PS4 because it have better multiplatform games but I'm sure who already pretend buy a Xbone, or have more friends on Xbone or even have only the Xbone will chosee it and will be happy.

"Choose PS4 because it have better multiplatform games"  < this is subjective just so you know :-p

Surely this has been done in other industries, but this is fairly new to gaming, or at least recently. Last gen only COD and GTA come to mind as major 3rd party games being heavily marketed so one-sided.

You don't think having a heavily PS vibe injected into Destiny marketing won't have a substantial impact on PS4 hardware/software sales? Because we are the minority, the in-the-know internet gamer. There is merit to this strategy, and it has been done by both sides.

Destiny is not GTA or COD. Those are the two big casual magnets. The games that parents know about. Destiny is not that.

I know....my OP explained the difference. It is Destiny's unknown factor compared to GTA and COD that make its "pretend exclusivity" factor all the greater.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

This is a technical fact... there is no way to be subjective if every multiplatform game released util now player better or/and have better graphics on PS4.

This isn't open to discussion because most close multiplatform is Need For Spped (yet some effects missing on Xbone) I guess... in fact there is no multiplatform better on Xbone (very few cases of parity).

WTF?

It is Multiplatform.

But why would you assume the default reaction to the uninformed gamer would be that its an exclusive?

they maybe uninformed about the particular game but based on their knowledge from massive multiplatform games which still only have 1 logo, they know an advert only having 1 logo does not mean it is only on that platform.

uninformed is not the same as stupid.

I said they would think exclusive or that it would be THE place to play the game above all else. I mentioned that the effect on a new IP like Destiny will affect the console advertised far greater then a very well known 3rd party blockbuster that is advertised one-sided.

Good thread. But I wonder....is Sony doing the marketing for this game?
I remember MS used to run multiplat ads with "Only on xbox live" at the end. Is Sony doing something similar, or is this pretend exclusivity simply falling into their laps?

Destiny does have a timed exclusive beta and outright exclusive content on PS4. I imagine Sony didn't get that for free.

Not sure if it is worth the investment.. How much more copies can Sony expected to say from the playstation 4 over the xbox one? maybe 500k..?

The game is multiplatform..whether they like it or not. [unlike titanfall, ms console exclusives.]

I think Sony are more interested in the hardware boost.  From the preorder numbers and the stuff that BenVtrigger said in another thread, Destiny is going to be huge and shift a lot of consoles.

True it should move alot of consoles but I am saying if someone wanted to play the game on the xbox one with their friends, I doubt they will care about the destiny on ps4 or bundled...also considering there might be a price cut for the x1 coming this fall. Is it a good move for sony? of course but will it sell that many consoles with  the game is on every single platform, i would love to see that, but i doubt it. Ps3 and xbox 360 will cut those next gen numbers by a huge margin.

I don't think last gen will cut into sales too much.  I think there are a lot of people hyped for Destiny on next gen and the preorders, although at times wildly inaccurate on this site, prove that.

I'm not sure how many more PS4s will be sold over X1s because of the official bundle and advertising, but they should both get a boost.  I can't be bothered to find it now, but I'm sure I've seen an article about Activision setting aside an incredible amount of money for advertising the living hell out of this game.

No it's not! better resolution and/or framerate is not subjective.Plus, bigger install base makes difference in the case of multplatform games.

Oh of course not. Sony definitely wanted to be on the good side of the ex-Halo dev
