Forums - Gaming - What is happening in Naughty Dog and how that is going to affect them?

Recently Naughty Dog has been lossing some crew.

After the success of TLoU and all the GOTY awards it claimed, it may be that employees are using this opportunity to start their own businesses (using their newly earned fame to get the kind of attention from publishers that indies wouldn't normally get) or to hunt for better positions/bigger paychecks in other companies.

Do you guys think this is all that is happening? Or there is something else?

What about Naughty Dog. Is this going to affect them? How?

I think at the worst case scenario, they will just delay their games to 2015 (new games that is, not the ports) and replace all the people that left with fresh new developers

But it is a bit worrysome that so many left and are continuing to leave... I knew Sony needed to provided more tits around the office

Tbh I'm not too worried. I've watched Uncharted DF developer diaries (iirc) and I think it was Wells or Balestra who said that the transition from PS2 to PS3 was a disaster, and had a lot of problems, worked their asses off making an engine from scratch for the PS3, not one line reused, they lost a lot of people back then. Hell they lost their founders Gavin and Rubin.
And how it turned out? They are by far my favourite studio now, made two amazing franchises that are among my favourite of all time, and I assume that what's happening now is peanuts compared to the exodus that happened back then.
A change of roster does not have to be a bad thing. But of course it's a gamble. Still it's just a couple of people even if important figures. I'm hoping for the best, and cannot wait to play their next game.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I knew their model wouldn't last for too long when I was watching the making of Uncharted 2.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Sony should just shut Naughty Dog down. It's pretty clear Uncharted will be a massive bomb and Sony can't risk that kind of hit to their reputation. It would be safer to just kill Naughty Dog now. It's like they need them anymore, they have Knack.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I think perhaps it's the prominence of the people involved and how central they are to the development of the Uncharted games that makes people report on this, not necessarily that four people have left the company.

What's happening is that employees in important positions have left and they will affected by having to replace them. Isn't that obvious?

People move on and move up.  The old chick leaving is the best thing that happend to uncharted, her stories sucked.  One dude that left was there for what 2 years, what big deal is that.  The two founders of ND left and ND still went on to become the best dev in the business.

im not worried too, because at the end of the day these games are made by a 100 man team, there are many many talanted people in the team and any can be promoted to fill in. also, these guys are naughty dog, the top of the top when it comes to developers, it would be quite easy to replace them considering their status and the fact that they are located in the states.
