Forums - Politics - Woman runs over teenaged cyclist, then sues his bereaved family

DD_Bwest said:

it mentions the family sueing the lady, and they had the lawyer before the lawsuit(the ladys suit) was filed, because he didnt want to have to tell the family. But it doesnt say which was filed first. If the family was sueing the lady first, she has every right to file a counter suit, especially if it was the teenagers negligence.

should probably wait until more is revealed before casting judgement

Sure, she has the right, but it's tough to see how it can possibly be right to sue - counter or otherwise - for such a ridiculous sum after you've killed someone's kid. That takes some pretty serious cuntishness.

I'm not really sure what to make of her claim that they did not apply their brakes properly and can't really see how that could cause her to hit them outside of her own fault.

What the actual fuck is this?! I can't believe people like this exist. This is why a legal system that allows lawsuits over practically everything is not a good idea, imagine lawyers and judges actually spending time on stuff like this, makes me cringe.

Gotta love America's sue first ask questions later mentality. I hate this shit, everyone is looking for a free ride. It's disgusting.

Except this isn't in America.

Yeah, I could see her arguing against paying damages by contested who was at fault here (I do not know enough details to say one way or the other). I do not understand expecting the family to pay her over a million dollars for her suffering though. Unless that is a legal tactic of some sort to get a settlement of much less.

this incident actually happened some time ago,  there was an extensive investigation,  with a number of things blaming the teenagers.  lack of reflectors, helmets, how they were riding.

they family is sueing the lady for 900k,  in searching that was filed last march. so this would be a response.

She was already speeding on a dark and wet road at night. And she has killed a child while seriously injuring two others. So instead of reachign out to the families that she has torn apart....even if she was being sued she just for funeral sosts etc(which are still expenseive) she instead wants 1.35 million dollars and is not taking ahy responisbility herself? Not casting judgement at all but no matter how you look at it....this is LOW

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

I hate bicyclists. probably riding right in the middle of the road too, thinking it was too late for anyone else to be on the road. I'd sue for the damage to the vehicle as well. stupid kids on bikes.

Oh I didn't even realize this was in Canada!

Something in this story sounds strange. I don't think that boy was going out for 'hotdogs' at that time and the brother could have been a drug addict.

When legal systems start allowing shit like this, there is no point in having any laws at all.
