Forums - Gaming - Ethomaz's Dismantling the Myths: Amazon.com's Best Sellers is Not Accurate to the Predict Overall Hardware Sales in US (Checking: Accuracy with Software)

Except it's calculated the same way.   It's not actual total sales.

It based in sales units.

The hourly ranking shows what was sold hour by hour... so if in one hour a guy came and buy 10 Gamecubs it will be high compared with 5 Wii solds in the same hour.

But in the Weekly and Montly it won't enter in the chart because it is a consolided ranking.

Go and check you example month in Amazon to see if the Gamecube is found or just try to prove me wrong

Even so, the number of shoppers on amazon is greatly dwarfed by the bestbuy/gamestop/walmart, etc. shoppers.

Amazon can predict trends, but isn't a main contributor to the greater scope of hardware sales.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

MORE PROOF?

September 2013.

360 #42

Who won NPD September?

Bbbut October 2013?

It is like researchs with margin of erros... you interview 3k people to give a result for 1 million people with less than 2% margin of error.

Amazon is the sample.

Can you actually look that far back monthly.

I know you can yearly... and it doesn't exactly play out... Unless you think Halo 4 sold more then PS3 in 2012...

Outside which, I don't have to go farther then your own lists.

Look at your december list here...

Best Seller for Decemebr 2013 is Just Dance 2014?

Even though Call of Duty Ghosts is ahead of it everwhere on the weeklies on Vgchartz, and NPD has it at third?

Yeap... you can look back even weekly.

You missed the part I was talking about HARDWARE and no SOFTWARE... software have multiples SKUs and bundles that is impossible to put together... I even give the Titanfall example.

You example... you need to sum all CoD: Ghosts (Bundles, 360, PS4, PS3, etc) to compare with all Just Dance (Bundles, 360, Wii, etc).

Except here, the software SKU's only go against your point.

The 360 and PS3 versions BOTH outsell Just Dance's Wii Version which is the only one selling well.

There is a reason why NOBODY uses one storefront for predictions.

It's because they aren't a good representative sample.  Different "types" of people flock to different stores.

Nope.

Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, PC)
Just Dance 2014 (Wii, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, PS4)

Wii was the best seller in NPD like Amazon shows.

If you lookc Amazon shows this order for CoD too: 360, PS3, One, PS4... Wii U and PC not in the TOP 100.

These days amazon is a better tale of who won then vgc's weekly bad numbers.
Amazon in theory should represent the market closely, though anomalies are to be expected.

You misunderstood my english.

Call of Duty Ghosts on 360 and PS3 outsold Just Dance 2014's Wii Version.

Which was the only Just Dance to sell anything.
