Actually alot of what you just listed is in ESO.

I dont know how you can say that with a straight face. If you played Skyrim, you know that isnt true.

You probably should have just left this sentence out though...

"do quests on Skyrim come in the form of an exclamation mark on top of peoples heads?"

Unless they changed it from beta, thats exactly what happens in ESO.

I had about my fill of this thread though, so i am gonna end my posting here. I cant stand people trying to throw sand on other peoples eyes to fool them into buying a game they probably wont enjoy. I recommend whoever is in doubt to go watch gameplay videos and judge from yourself who was telling the truth.

I was just trying to say putting an exclamation point over a quest givers head isn't anything too special.  I've never played any ES games but have watched friends play a little (about the most boring thing to possible do is watch someone play Skyrim).  So did Skyrim not have the exclamation point over quest givers head?  I am a little confused.

Holy hell...that is common trope in MMOs. Its rare that a single player rpg would do such a thing, I can't even recall one but I wont call it an absolute, regardless there is no Elder Scrolls game that does this.

ESO is nothing like Skyrim except that its an Elder Scrolls game, its more like a shitty version of morrowind/oblivion.

I could make an extensive list of everything wrong with ESO but it practically boils down to: Shallow Wow Clone Elder Scrolls Theme Park

and like Star Wars: Kotor, which has a much better production value then ESO, being a Wow Clone is a recipe for disaster. You think the fps market is saturated? 9/10 MMO's are WOW clones, partly because they require huge investment, but lack of risk taking and innovation (which for me is a last resort) has over stagnated the genre.

And Diablo III is at something like 3m on VGC but 12m+ as of a year ago according to Blizzard. VGChartz PC numbers are not to be trusted plus it probably has over 70% of its sales digitally.

Diablo III has sold over 15m units.

Yep, most just try and clone WoW considering it was so successful but no one really has a made a successful WoW clone.  I just wanted to say...  Remember Curt Schilling's 38 Studios which was trying to make a MMO?  They failed before even releasing the MMO and that was even with a $75 million loan from Rhode Island.  Seems like MMOs might be more stagnant than FPS.

I have played Skyrim for nearly 200 hours, and have also played the ESO beta (waiting on the console release before I buy it). Have you played ESO or are you just listening to internet rumors? Some of what you listed is indeed in ESO, and most the things you listed that aren't in ESO are very minor immersion related things that aren't essential to a game. ESO has an Elder Scrolls story, it has Elder Scrolls artwork and characters, it has a different but fun combat system, it's an all around good game. I gave it a preliminary 8/10 based on my time in the beta, but some of the things that lowered my score have since been fixed (the linear starting zones are now optional for instance), so I suspect my final score will be at least an 8.5/10.

See my problem with the combat is that altough its free roam, its still basically grinding and not dynamic at all, the enemy ai has no strategy what so ever, not to mention you can block while dual-weilding, and all the weps have the same attack speed. Hit with normal attacks, enemy will telavise strong attack->block, they will get stunned, repeat spamming till die, loot, target another enemy -> hit them with skills and repeat. For all itents and purpose its basically SWTOR with worse looking assests.

They had so much potential, a simple radiant quest system would make the game instantly better. If your looking for WOW its basically it with slightly better graphics, slightly freer graphics, wrapped up in thin ESO lore.

Even as a ftp, i Doubt I would spend much time with it. Ground Zeroes is a better deal then ESO imo.

I've been playing MMOs for a decade and ESO looks like it couldv'e been done late 2009.

The combat didn't really bother me in the beta, though the game did feel too easy, though I only played the starting zones, I'm sure it gets harder later on (I've seen videos of higher levels playing and dying during combat so it seems that it does get harder). Yes it's a bit grindy like most MMO's, but then again Skyrim's combat was kind of grindy too. Honestly grindy doesn't bother me, I've played enough MMO's over the years that it doesn't even phase me anymore, 1600+ hours into Runescape will have that effect on a guy, lol. Honestly I thought the combat was more fun than any previous MMO that I've played, though STO comes close. It was definitely more fun than SWTOR's combat, which was basically a WoW clone. ESO at least has some Skyrim like mechanics to it's combat, for instance the basic attack and blocking being tied to the mouse instead of to number keys. And the first person view definitely helps to make it feel more like an Elder Scrolls game to me. Honestly I'm not going to let some grindy but still fun combat get in the way of what seemed to be a great story, nor in the way of exploring new regions of Tamriel that we've yet to see in the main series recreated with gorgeous artwork.

True. I just wish it had more combat options. It feels more like morrowind/oblivion online then what I was expecting as Skyrim Online. Stealth, magical traps, environmental destruction and damage, these were all things I was looking forward to and I guess at the most generic level of skyrim combat e.g sword and shield, single sword, or dual sword its pretty accurate.

In Skyrim I could clear entire rooms just by shooting an arrow into a pot and causing that pot to drop in a pool of oil. Poison arrows with paralysis so that I could avoid a physical altercation. As a glass cannon stealth archer/mage, its obvious how I was dissapointed, but your opinion is valid as well.

In a year ESO will die just like other mmo's that attempt to do monthly fees at first do (TOR is the latest). GW2, Eve, and WoW are really the only mmo's with a consistently dependable userbase (the other mmo's start out hot then die after 6 months just like TOR did and just like ESO will). The era of monthly fees is over. It was already heading that way but Gw2 pushed it over the cliff. Even the allmighty WoW is consistently looking a massive amount of players every quarter or so and will be dead within a year or 2 at this rate (but they will go free to play when it gets low enough, making it survive).

FFXIV has an active userbase of more than 2 million..not sure if that is what you refer as an dependable profitable userbase..

I should have said consistently dependable Western userbase. I know there are a bunch of mmos that have success in Asian countries. I doubt the majority of the FFXIV userbase are located in the west, but I could be wrong and if I am wrong then I apologize for the omission.
