Not as much as Pokemon but I'm pretty sure that it will give the 3DS a modest boost. It all depends on the reviews.

Im expecting strong reviews and good sales all around. Tough no Pokemon or Mario-Kart levels. Its a first entry of a popular franchise, so a lot depends on how well it will be received by critics. PSASBR proved that this kind of game can work perfectly on handhelds, tough it did not have the brand backing or the perfect, day 1 balance of the SSB series.
I also think that releasing the handheld version during summer is a genius move by Nintendo and the fact that it has a different campaign compared with the WiiU version are 2 great steps to differentiate the 2 versions.
All in all Im expecting strong sale (anywhere from 3-6 million units LT) and a major hardware boost during launch month in every region. Will it last? No, but it will help the 3DS maintain good sales throughout the year
Vote the Mayor for Mayor!
Smash, Mario Golf, Kirby, and Tomodachi Life will do good for the first half of the year but unless E3 announces some amazing stuff to launch later this year we only have Persona Q to look forward to (which might not come to the US until next year : /).
Yea 3ds doesn't have zomfg titles like last year but ssb is good enough (along with others) to push the sales through to 2015... and who knows, maybe we will get bravely second this year, probably not though

If you would have asked me a month ago what I thought about the 3DS version, I would have said meh. But now it all sort of changes for me. If they would have somehow incorporated cross system play it would have been a gUarranteed hit. Everything looks to be in order for a 9 + metacritic, since that is the only system people seem to pay attention to. Unless controls are sloppy or they have some weird mechanics like in Mario Tennis 3DS everything should be good. |
I agree with you, the first videos for Super Smash Bros 3DS where completely boring. But the last direct actually got me more excited since the 3DS version is going to have an extra mode!
As for metacritic, you can never be certain. I am pretty sure there will be complaints because of the graphics and the music. Remember that the 3DS version has only 2 tracks per stage. Even so I think it will score decently, we just have to wait and see.

Totally forgot about Yoshi. ;p
And Bravely Default for NA at least.
I think Smash and Tomodachi could be huge for the 3DS if Nintendo decides to market...
Nintendo is so unpredictable with their marketing attempts...
Marketing Smash should be a piece of cake for them at this point...
Tomodachi might prove trickier...
I would assume though that if they have decided to release Tomodachi in the West, they have found an effective means of marketing it...
Have a nice day...
I'm expecting a bump, yes, and perhaps a prolonged one: it offers something valuable in a field which the 3DS largely has lacking (fighting games)
Of course it will do well. Japan alone will make sure of that! The problem is, other than Smash Bros., what else is there for the 3DS in the second half of the year? A drought would kill any momentum SSB4 will have created.
