This game will finally justify my launch Wii U purchase.

Same here. This + Smash + Bayo2 + X is all I need (of course I need moar but these games have 2014 covered on the U, PC for the rest). I consider the Wii U to be like a DreamCast and GameCube as far as exclusives game go, fairly niche but totally awesome. 10 years from now after all the dust has settled it will be remberred for that and being brave enought to try out asymetric + motion gaming, even if it wasnt a Wii like success.

I agree nintendo games are good for fun with friends, but every console should be rememebered for the new games and its innovations with new IP's/experiences, not just for the same old IP's with updgraded visuals/gameplay instead of introducing new games/experiences. But, for nintendo consoles its always same for each genration mario, donky kong, zelda and pokemon just with some upgrades to visuals and gameply instead of looking to create New IP's/experiences that can last for that generation.

While I agree its important to have new and innovative ideas (like Wii Fit and Wii Sports), the tried and tested formulae are still important. Mario, DK, Zelda and Pokemon always have and still do appeal to generation after generation of kids. The  fact that they might be the umpteenth iteration of the same  game with upgrades doesn't bother them. It's their first experience of those franchises, so they need to look new and fresh. Look at the history of LEGO. (and I don't mean the LEGO videogames) Need I say any more?

I'm talking about the first party innovations in game IP's and experiences in the software but not third party games and hardware related motion gameplays which is hated by the core gaming audience and its been unsuccessful so far for everyone. When we talk about Nintendo console then every generation only Mario, DK , Zelda and Pokemon sells better and i dont see any new IPs/experiences from nintendo which has been innovative and critcally acclaimed in each generation to remember and must have for that consoles. That is what for their consoles are being sold and nintendo made their fans to get used to. So, no other game from them or third party is not selling well in their consoles mostly and we have the proof for this from the Wii and Wii U.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

I have a PS4, and have barely touched it. I am getting FFXIV for it in a few days (preordered) so that will change, but I admit that most visuals I've seen hasn't blown me away. I admit I haven't gotten Infamous:SS or MGS:GZ (I'll wait for them to hit PS+), but Killzone, as good as it looked, just didn't wow me like I expected. I don't know much on the tech side of this, but even if PS4 smashes Wii-U spec-wise, visually, I have yet to witness that power gap being as great as so many profess it to be.

Surprisingly, I've been impressed with some Nintendo's offerings, most notably Mario Kart, Mario Land 3d, and X. If people want to chalk it up to art direction, I don't see how that makes it some caveat that should make people disregard the prowess of Nintendo's system. It still takes some muscle to allow the developers to adequately express their artistic merits. Wii-U has that muscle and should not be taken for granted because what their top games are capable of won't be seen on a lastgen console. PS3/360 just doesn't have the chops to do what is shown in the 3 games above (or even SSB Wii-U, because it blows Playstation All-Stars, both visually and gameplay-wise, out of the proverbial water).

OT, MK looks better than most of what is offered on "nextgen" systems, and destroys any cart racer on PS3/360. The tech in the Wii-U can't be that bad if it can impress like this in the midst of newer systems coming out. I'd wager to say the difference between a Wii-U and PS4/XB1 is more like PS2 to XBOX/GC than Wii to PS3/PS4, because no matter what the raw numbers are, the Wii-U's best is still visually competitive to whatever is on PS4/XB1.

My hypemeter is on overload.
I've NEVER been this hyped for a game in my entire life.

Hope you guys are ready to get your asses kicked online.

You claimed that 'every console should be rememebered for the new games and its innovations with new IP's/experiences, not just for the same old IP's with updgraded visuals/gameplay instead of introducing new games/experiences.' You complained that for Nintendo consoles it's always 'the same for each generation' and that they should be 'looking to create New IP's/experiences that can last for that generation.'

I argued the case for existing IP, and mentioned that there were new and innovative ideas like Wii Fit and Wii Sports. You then moved the goalposts by claiming that you're excluding hardware-related motion gameplays which you say are hated by core gaming audiences and have been unsuccessful for everyone.

This goalpost-moving basically invalidates your initial claim and your argument.

Like it or not, the Wii will be remembered for its motion control gameplay. In particular, it will be remembered for its sports and fitness related software. As for new IP developed specifically for the Wii, 22 million EACH for Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus, (which between them, outsold Mario Kart Wii) can hardly be considered unsuccessful.

Like it or not, Nintendo do not follow the crowd. They get a lot of negativity on the internet for it, but they stick to their guns and continue to innovate.

Back on topic, Mario Kart 8 is looking spectacular. I don't know much about all these gigaflip-flops and RAMs and such, but I do know a good looking game when I see one, and this is one of them.

Lovely. This is what Nintendo fans missed out on while they were playing Wii instead a PS3 or 360 class hardware.

Ps3 can not match sm3dw at all. I own ps3 360 and wii u. Wii u has the better graphics on 1st party end of.

A plastic 'cartooney' 3D game

doesnt go anywhere near compared to this

Oh. Beat them to death vs. Beat them to death vs. ...

Thats remarkable fidelity in game play. As a gamer I will always choose gameplay over graphics. I don't count pixels.

BTW: any middle class PC tops PS4 and XOne - today. next year they will run circles around them. Nothing to be proud of as a PS4 or XOne graphics whore...

Why were they hated? Because Microsoft and Sony couldn't archive that level a technical excellence as Nintendo !

Metroid Prime, 007 and RedSteel 2 showed what real FPS should feel like.

Sonys Move didn't come close. No wonder point-to-shoot didn't catch up with it...

Holy crap. I knew it was looking good but this is insane!!!

Holds it's own to the best looking Ps4/Xbone visuals in my opinion. For the art style you can't really get much better than that.

@Kane

TLOU shots you use are either bullshots or taken from ingame CG/Cinematics that runs on a aeperate engine like in Yakuza and Devil May Cry games and not in actual ingame enviroment and likely those GOW shots are also from cg/cinematics... I played both of these games at my friends birthday... TLOU and GOW might look “realistic“ but Mario Kart 8 characters have better quality textures(higher resolution/more detailed and little to no compression artifacts) also I am sure that characters in Mario Kart 8 exceed in polygon count by a good margin when you see how well rounded are those models. A nearly perfectly round ball contains 968 polygons(22*22=484*2=968) and I counted that in my head and Mario in Mario Kart 8 has most likely 25000-30000 polygons without the kart. With kart it would add another 10000-15000 or more depending on model being used... Do not forget that mustaches and hair of Mario are animated too so it is more demanding than most characters on HD twins.

Polygon counting experts >_>

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine
