Europe, yes. Japan, no. Having a popular platform in Japan primarily means that platform is going to get a lot of niche Japanese games.
A vast majority of home console sales comes from the west and that's the focus of MS, Sony, and Nintendo.

Japanese devs better support X1 this gen. If they all saturate PS4 with games and don't support X1 and WiiU their doom path is gonna grow wider and lead them faster to ruin.

The rest is lost? No, they can still move a large number of units outside of US and UK.

They don't 'need' Japan, but the constant stream of smaller exclusive games the PS4 will get from Japan this gen will be a headache for Microsoft as it will cause a lot of swing purchases in America and Europe from the Anime crowd. It's basically free exclusives for Sony that they don't have to work for.

From dismissing PS4 superior power to blindly assuming that the European market is irrelevant and that all Americans are unified in their consumer preferences and will buy an xone....after 1 week of beating PS4 sales...by a little bit.
Well if they can win NA then I will feel superior to 90% of PS fans on this site, since they all happen to live in NA.
No victory overseas helps them losing where they live after all.
Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
